Gary Barlow is sitting back on his dressing room couch at Wembley’s Fountain Studios, enjoying a brief break in his schedule. enjoying a brief break in his schedule. Pop’s most industrious male is waiting for end-of-week X Factor rehearsals to begin after yet another delay. His laptop is at his side, ready with the changes he’d like to make to his boys’ performances.

“We’re constantly behind on this show,” he grumbles, largely in good humour. “It’s a wonder we go live on time.”

Barlow has been up early to chat X Factor in a Radio 1 studio. Tomorrow he’ll be on the Daybreak sofa, under orders to saturate all available channels with talk of ITV’s Saturday night glitz and high drama singing contest.

In between times, he’ll return to Wembley to run through improvements with his three young charges – Frankie Cocozza, at this point, is still enjoying his last few days of notoriety for skirt-chasing before cocaine boasts will end his stint in the competition (Barlow later admits he “feels a level of responsibility”).

No-one can accuse the Take That frontman of failing to put the hours in. He doesn’t think Noel Gallagher – who recently revealed he knocked back Cowell when approached to be the X Factor’s ‘alpha male’ – would have been up for the graft the role demands.

“I don’t know about [Noel being a good judge]... It’s a big commitment. If you’re going to get involved with something like this you’ve got to be prepared to give a lot of time and effort to it… I can’t see him doing it somehow.”

So why, after several years of dazzling success on his own terms, did Barlow sign up to a TV producer’s punishing timetable?
“Well, a lot of people after the last Take That tour might have been thinking, ‘How do you top this?’ Which I suppose sort of led to me agreeing to the X Factor – it’s something completely different. It keeps life interesting, keeps things challenging. And it keeps you off the streets.”

It’s worth mulling over Barlow’s recent record of gainful employment. In 2011 he embarked on the Take That’s biggest tour yet, polished up eight new songs by the band (released as Progressed), and found time to write Matt Cardle’s big career-launch party single (in addition to penning a tune for Westlife). Having been at the helm for this year’s Children in Need single ‘Teardrop’, he will have another new song ready for the next X Factor winner. He also engineered this week’s Children in Need Rocks jamboree in Manchester. And there are two charity solo concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in December.

Perhaps his long wilderness years account for the manic work ethic?

“Yeah, I think that does explain it,” he sighs. “I do think of all this as a job, and when the phone rings the one thing I’ve always found it hard to say over the years is ‘no’. When work’s there you’ve got to take it because it’s one of those industries, where literally overnight something happens and things change and you’re forever trying to get back to where you were. So while it’s here, and it’s good, I’m just trying celebrate it.”

Britain has been happy to oblige, lighting on Barlow as a new pop laureate. Once dismissed as a boy-band product, plenty of ‘serious’ bands and songwriters now commend his work with something dangerously close to credibility. After years of being deemed the least fanciable member of That Take, women have arrived at the conclusion he is a serious looker. There is even a Twitter campaign to get him knighted.
It’s a far cry from how Barlow began the century, holed up in his Cheshire mansion, pop music’s forgotten man. He reflects on the dark days when he lost his record deal and the phone stopped ringing. “It all whizzed by so quickly that when it all came to an end, it took at few years to adjust,” he remembers. “My feet hadn’t touched the ground really, since I was 18 and the band started. We were wellsheltered from the fact that this won’t be here for long and it can be really short-lived.”

Overweight, stung by Robbie’s very public jibes, there was a time he would disguise himself for train journeys, terrified at the thought of being recognised and laughed at. At one point Barlow even asked if he could have his name changed on his credit cards so no-one could make the connection.“It always seems to me that people are interested in you either when you’re really flying high or when you’re really flying low,” he explains. “No-one really cares when you’re coasting along and things are going not too bad. When you’re down there, people want to rub your face in it. It’s a funny thing, human nature. I went through a lot of that. Especially when Robbie was doing so well, everyone seemed to like to remind me of it.” Could the insults be cruel? “Yeah...” he pauses. “They could be, and it was the way it really follows you round just everywhere you go. Of course nowadays, on a different note, all anybody wants to talk about is the bloody X Factor and what they think the songs should be, and oh God...” he mutters. “Everybody’s got an opinion.”

If this makes Barlow sound like the curmudgeon he hams up in Simon Cowell’s seat on the judging panel, the songwriter sounds genuinely amazed and excited by the power of music to turn things around. “I just never thought it would happen again,” he says of the remarkable second life spawned by Take That’s 2006 comeback tour. Only after the reunion received such a warm reception did he find the spark for the big songs – ‘Patience’, ‘Shine’, ‘Rule the World’ and ‘Greatest Day’ – that transformed his reputation.

“It’s fueled by confidence,” he reasons. “If you’ve not got any and you’re not in a good place, then it reflects in the music. We’d been given a big chance to come back and we knew how important it was. The tour was good. I was re-energised. So it’s born of confidence – those are big confidence songs. Those moments are when you find those records. They’re inspirational, they’re positive lyrically. I know it sounds a bit lofty, but it’s the truth. Music is still special… it’s so great when a song defines a year or a moment in your life.”

He dismisses tabloid rumours about squabbles on the latest Take That tour. “It was fun, really good fun,” he says. “It was nice to have the five together – that’s been a goal of ours for years. We’d pretty much settled all the tension by the time we set foot in the studio. From there we worked well as a team. The tour was all about celebration. No-one went to that dark area.”

So he and Robbie are still getting on? “He gets the show sent over every Sunday and he’s loving laughing at me on that. It’s been lovely getting to know him again. I hope to always be in touch. I think it is friendship as well as a work relationship.”

Having known both the glorious highs and long dark nights of the soul offered by the industry, Barlow would seem the ideal candidate to help the nation’s next pop star turn their 15 minutes into something more substantial. He does not believe the X Factor puts unfair pressure on young shoulders.

“It’s a massive opportunity. I think you’ve got to want it this bad. In fact, my criticism is, some of them should want it more than they do. The pop world is a bit like fashion. It moves very quickly. What happens with some people is, they earn a bit of money and they think, ‘I’m all right now, and I can’t be arsed with all the hard work any more.’

“I think the one thing you’ve got to have is thick skin. There’s always going to be someone who sees you doing well and wants to drag you down. So it’s about having a mindset of push, push, push all the time. And that’s what I do.”

So if finding the right chords and melodies offered him salvation, Barlow puts faith in hard work to protect the success he still feels is fragile. But could any of it prepare him for the X Factor’s relentless daily drama? The plotline demands and tabloid gossip?

“There’s so much I wasn’t prepared for,” he laughs. “The press stuff is just... actually quite funny. It’s so wrong and so untrue it becomes funny. It’s a bit of a circus, the whole thing. It’s kind of part and parcel of the whole show so you learn to live with it. I don’t read newspapers but you hear the whispers and you think, ‘Jesus Christ, what is happening...what is happening here?’ The truth is it’s probably keeping a lot of the papers going.”

And what happens if fame fades again? Would he be ready this time?

“I don’t know,” he pauses. “Every time we’ve had a record out, I’ve always thought, ‘Oh God is this it? Is this the end?’ There’s a side of me that thinks, ‘Shit – it could end tomorrow.’ But there’s another side that thinks, ‘Y’know what? We’ve got such a faithful audience, they’ll probably come and watch us for the rest of their lives’.

“Maybe our CDs won’t sell as many but our live shows are something people fight for tickets for, and maybe that’s something that’ll last.”

Gary Barlow has been speaking to Grazia magazine about how happy he is with trim physique and how he gets a kick out of people telling him he’s lost too much weight.

He said, “I'm at a weight that I'm just so bloody happy with and I feel amazing. I'm full of confidence.

“It's going to sound shallow, but being happy with the way I look makes me spring out of bed in the morning and want to live life.

“I can't say I don't get a little kick out of it. Me, too thin ... will wonders ever cease?”

The 40-year-old Take That star revealed how he ballooned to 17 stone during his darkest days and how his wife, Dawn stood by him and helped him face his demons.

“Dawn knows how weight has always been my enemy, how with every mouthful of food I have always felt guilty.

“I've actually had major problems with food for years and years. I realised that once I started to eat I couldn't stop.”

The Take That singer revealed he was finding the pressure of being part of this year's series difficult - as viewers can be so quick to scrutinise your every move.

In a revealing interview with Esquire magazine, the dad-of-three said: "I've got to get my head around it, learn to enjoy it. It's so intense!

"All those people out there watching every move you make and analysing it and talking to their friends about it and Tweeting and gossiping...

"I think at this point the reason I'm not particularly enjoying it is I don't feel I'm in control of it.

He might be a big old scary mother ‘effa in his role as X Factor head judge (as well as incredibly sexual) but Gary Barlow has all the hang ups the rest of us girls do, apparently.

He’s just given an interview which reveals his inner most demons over his insecurities and constant battle with grub.

“Food’s been my enemy all my life. I’ve been at war with food because I’ve always loved it and it’s always made me feel guilty and I’ve always starved myself,” he told Esquire magazine, after a lunch of one celery stick and a gobful of tuna (the last bit was a lie, maybe).

“I’ve never eaten a mouthful of food for probably 20 years, and not thought, ‘I shouldn’t be eating this.’” Us neither, unfortunately it’s never stopped us.

He also spoke about his obsession with fame, which might be a bit of a headache for him, but thankfully probably means we’ll get to stare at his handsome face for many years to come.

“I recognise in me what I see in Elton [John] and all those people. We’re chasing the buzz. It’s a little drug. And I think once you’ve tasted it, especially once you’ve tasted it a number of times, you never want to lose it. It’ll annoy my wife for years, that, but there you go.”

At least she gets to see him naked though, eh? We’d happily trade ours in… oh, yeah there is no husband.

And although he’s coming across as a bit of a meanie on X Factor, seems he’s secretly worrying himself silly about it.

“I’ve got to get my head around it, learn to enjoy it. It’s so intense! All those people out there watching every move you make and analysing it and talking to their friends about it and Tweeting and gossiping… I think at this point the reason I’m not particularly enjoying it is I don’t feel I’m in control of it. Maybe I’ll never feel like that. It’s a totally bloody new thing for me.”

Enjoy it Gaz, Christ knows we’re enjoying you.

Gary Barlow would love to see Take That perform to smaller crowds at London's Royal Albert Hall.

Gary Barlow wants Take That to play smaller venues.

The 40-year-old singer has performed two solo shows at London's Royal Albert Hall over the last two nights, and would love for his main band - who have only played stadiums and large arenas since reforming in 2005 - to play an intimate show at the 5,000 seat venue.

He said: "Take That have never played here. We need to change that. We've got to make it happen. It's a beautiful venue."

Gary - who is also a judge on UK TV show 'The X Factor' - "loved" taking to the stage for his first solo show in years and insists he wasn't nervous about going it alone.

He told the Daily Star newspaper: "It's a bit of antidote to 'The X Factor'. This is what I actually do for a real job. I wasn't nervous one bit.

"I don't know what it was, I was just dying to get out and do a gig. I loved it.

"I did a show for my birthday earlier this year but other than that it's my first show in 11 years on my own. This has been the most intense year ever but I've loved it."

Gary Barlow, Bryan Adams and Michael Buble help Burnham mum raise money for cancer research
http://www.thisistotalessex.co.uk/Gary-Ba....ry.html

A MUM from Burnham has enlisted famous friends including Bryan Adams, Gary Barlow and Michael Bublé to raise money for cancer research after her son was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Five-year-old Laughlin Whiteley receives chemotherapy three times a week at Great Ormond Street as he battles to recover.

But parents Andrea Poyser and John Whiteley say there is not enough funding for scientists to find a cure for his type of cancer, so they are putting on a concert in Burnham aimed at raising £5,000 for Brain Tumour Awareness.

Those stars already mentioned, plus Jamie Cullen, Jessie J, JLS and Marcus Collins from the X Factor, will all put in video appearances with personalised messages for Laughlin, while West End stars will sing and dance the night away.

Mrs Poyser, 41, a West End actress with many connections who lives in Mildmay Road, said: "Dr Rajesh and staff at Broomfield and Great Ormond Street have been fantastic throughout Laughlin's treatment, but the Government is currently only investing 1 per cent of the funding needed for research into brain cancer.

"I have been told that in five years' time there will be a cure for Laughlin's type of cancer, which is called medulloblastoma, but that the research is not yet advanced enough because of funding.

"I am hoping that we will raise £5,000 from the Let It Shine concert, all of which will go to Brain Tumour Awareness.

"As soon as people get better from cancer, people seem to stop talking about it.

"But so many are diagnosed and we don't get to hear about it.

"It is not all that rare, 16,000 people get diagnosed each year. It would be nice for there to be more support for parents whose children develop the disease."

The concert will be held on Sunday at Ormiston Rivers Academy in Southminster Road.

Ms Poyser said: "I am also going to be singing Wipe Away Your Tears after my drama group performs, and we are going to play a video of Laughlin singing When You Believe."

Since Laughlin was diagnosed six months ago, his dad John, 43, has given up work to look after him and his brother.

Ms Poyser said: "John has been absolutely fantastic throughout all of this and so strong.

"We are quite a spiritual family and have remained positive throughout, but it has been hard.

"I have had to focus my work locally and have been teaching drama at Ormiston.

"Our lives have changed so much, you can't just have a day out at a museum now because you have to constantly be near the right facilities."

Laughlin had suffered from intense headaches for almost a year and was experiencing an extreme loss of balance when his parents took him to Dr Rajesh.

Ms Poyser said: "Laughlin's treatment has been very positive so far and he has had a complete removal of the tumour.

"It was about the size of a fist and Laughlin has been left with a scar, which he calls his pirate scar."

He now has six months to a year left of chemotherapy.

Ms Poyser said: "Laughlin has been so positive throughout everything and when John and I feel upset we leave it until he has gone to bed.

"He did go to pre-school at Tree Tops but he now has a private tutor because his white blood cell count is low. He has been very brave."

The Let It Shine concert will commence at 7pm on Sunday at the Ormiston Rivers Academy. Tickets cost £5 and there will be also be a raffle to raise money.

For tickets call Andrea Poyser on 07976 167481 or e-mail andrea@andreapoyser.com

2011 will be remembered as the year that Simon Cowell was rendered pretty much redundant on British television. It's a controversial statement we never imagined ourselves writing, seeing as Simon had a strangle hold on our viewing habits for years, either on or in charge of most of our favourite shows.

But going Cowell cold turkey hasn't been nearly as hard as we feared, thanks to one man (puts on best voiceover voice) GARY BAAARRRLLLLOOOWWWW!!

This has been the first year in ages that Simon hasn't monopolised the ITV schedule after he bowed out of the auditions for Britain's Got Talent, but the biggest change was a Cowell-free judging panel on X Factor. The show that we were sure couldn't survive without him has survived. And thrived. We all know that the most interesting stuff takes place on the judging panel rather than on the stage and we had major doubts about the chemistry of the new mentors, so we're grateful that Gary stepped into Simon's Cuban heels and cha-cha-cha-ed away with the show.

He's also a much better dresser, in his Harris Tweed and sexy (so I'm told by MSN Celebrity's editor Lucy Mapstone) stubble. In fact, we think he deserves national treasure status, he's right up there with Bruce Forsyth, David Attenborough (and, er, Cheryl Cole) in our books!

More spiteful than Simon... in a good way
At times he's been a calming influence and a voice of reason when others on the panel are fighting, but in reality Gary's bitchier than the lot of them put together! He's been particularly mean to Louis, rubbishing his opinions and even saying that there's no point in him being there.

Gary's been accused of being (gasp!) nastier than Simon and tactically attacking rival acts, such as saying that Amelia was too shouty or that Little Mix's vocals weren't strong enough, to overshadow the shortcomings of Marcus Collins. But we can forgive his know-it-all attitude because in our eyes Gary more than deserves his elder statesman persona thanks to more than twenty years in the business: however ruthless he may act at times, he's earned it.

"However ruthless Gary may act at times, he's earned it."

If you need more proof of his powerful ways, Gary supported David Cameron in his election campaign back when the Tories were the underdogs by performing Greatest Day at an event, and they were swept to power! Okay, so he probably can't be credited with the Conservatives win but there's no denying he has a winning touch... could it be magic?

We love Gazza
Like most villainous masterminds, Gary leads a double life... charitable family man by day and dastardly X Factor judge by night.

Nice guy Gary climbed Kilimanjaro in 2009 and got some of his celeb mates to go with him, raising £6million in the process, and he organised this year's official Children In Need single. Gaz also donated his original handwritten lyrics to Back For Good to the Teenage Cancer Trust and he's planning a trip to the North Pole for Sports Relief. In short, he's a top bloke.

A charitable bloke, Gary also performed at The Prince's Trust concert

On top of all this Gary-shaped greatness, he's also one of the last male celebs around to have a scandal-free personal life. He's been happily married to Gail, one of Take That's old backing dancers, for over 10 years and they have three cherubic children.

But even now with his popularity at an all-time high, the down-to-earth star has said that he has no plans to capitalise on all that by re-launching his solo career and said that unlike Robbie Williams, he doesn't like the limelight and prefers to share the adoration with his bandmates. "No, not for me," he said recently when he was asked for the umpteenth time about a solo album. "It's funny because all the reasons someone would do [X Factor] - the money, to become more famous - I've got them already. I've joined just because I wanted to" he told The Guardian.

"Unlike Robbie Williams, he doesn't like the limelight and prefers to share the adoration with his Take That bandmates."

More Barlow please!
So, sorry Simon; we don't miss you and we want to see more of Mr. Barlow on British telly in the near future. We're crossing everything that Gary is back on X Factor next year and we're happy to hear that he's keen to return too: "It's looking good that I won't get the sack at Christmas," he said. But until then, we've helpfully suggested some new roles for him now that X Factor is gone for another year...

Piers Morgan is busy in America, so we'd love it if Gary took over his Life Stories series and bullied the guests into revealing all their secrets. Or how about a Gary At Home style cooking show, a la Jamie Oliver? Gary in a pinny = Like.

Is it time for retirement, Lord Sugar? Gary could host The Apprentice and bang the table to his heart's content as he tells the hopefuls that they're "everything this competition doesn't need." And while we're thinking about it, Sir Barlow has a nice ring to it, doesn't it? Or maybe even Lord Barlow.

The options are endless but one thing's for sure... 2011 was the year that our favourite Take That star morphed into our favourite star, period.

Gary Barlow must be wound up tighter than Frankie Cocozza's trousers after this year's X Factor.

So it's no surprise that the singer and TV judge has shipped himself off to Antigua – one of the furthest places on Earth from Louis Walsh.

The Take That star flew his family out to the Caribbean island on Friday last week.

He splashed out on the no-expense-spared holiday months ago so he had something to look forward to during the show's most hectic moments.

A source said: "Gary has been working flat out for the past few months, both on The X Factor and organising his charity gigs.

"He's a real family man and couldn't wait to spend some more time with his wife Dawn and the kids.

"Some playing with the nippers, swimming and book reading is exactly what he needs after all of the chaos on the TV show."

Doubt he'll be watching the final of the US version this week then.

If there's any man we'd like to keep us warm over Christmas, it's Gary Barlow. And that could be an ACTUAL POSSIBILITY as Gazza has provided his coat for an auction to raise money for our Age UK Spread the Warmth campaign.

If you wanted extra glam factor, it's also the coat that Gary wore to the X Factor studios each week.

Gary's not the only one who's donated to this amazing cause - which raises money for Age UK, as well as helping raise awarness of the problems old people face during the winter months. He's also joined by JLS, Stella McCartney (bet she's got a nice coat) and Geri Halliwell, amongst others.

Робби - мой герой biggrin

Robbie Williams has topped a list of celebrities that people would most like to help out in an emergency situation this winter. David Beckham follows closely with X Factor judge and Take That front man Gary Barlow taking third position in the poll.

THE Travelodge has published a list of the most popular celebrities people want to invite around for Christmas.

According to the hotel chain, the favourites to gather round the dinner table are cheeky Geordie chappies Ant and Dec, for their comedy value.

Other notables on the list include: Stephen Fry - for his wit and good conversation, Cheryl Cole - for ‘keeping it real’ and for her great beauty tips, and Catherine, Dunchess of Cambridge - for style, etiquette and royal gossip.

The rest of the celebrities are: Holly Willoughby, Jamie Oliver, David Beckham, Gary Barlow, Keith Lemon and Bruce Forsyth.

What do you think of the list - would you have these famous friends round to share festive fun? What would your choices be?

Gary Barlow is finally jetting off on a long-awaited holiday following the Take That tour and then his stint as a judge on XFactor.

He has flown himself, his wife Dawn and their 3 kids off to the Caribbean island of Antigua. He’s been up to his eyes even AFTER the XFactor performing at charity gigs so booked this holiday months ago so he’d have something to look forward to.

Gary told 98FM – there is never any time to rest at this house – the weekends are especially hectic for the Barlows – with 3 kids, somebody always needs Dad’s taxi and they all have their own hobbies like little Emily’s piano lessons. Gary won’t teach her as he says “you never teach your own children how to drive, you get someone else to do it”. No pressure for Emily’s piano teacher so.
