GARY Barlow plans Something Special – recording a song with the kiddie TV show's Mr Tumble star Justin Fletcher.

Justin, a favourite on children's channel CBeebies, revealed he and Take That star Gary have discussed working together after first meeting at last year's Children's Baftas bash.

Justin said: "Gary broke off his tour to present a couple of the awards and said he would only come if he could meet Mr Tumble.

"We met afterwards, became friends and have talked about working together. It would be amazing to do a charity single with Gary, he's a lovely guy with a lovely family."

Gary isn't the only big name hoping to team up with Justin – also star of kids' TV hit Giggle-biz and new show Justin's House.

Peter Kay and Simon Pegg are also fans – they'd do anything to own Mr Tumble's spotty bag.

The X Factor judge describes a period of three years after the boy band's break-up when he was ''embarrassed'' to be himself and tormented by the failure of his own solo career.

The award-winning singer-songwriter said: ''I was living in Cheshire at the time, going to London and back on the train.

''I used to heavily disguise myself, with a hat and everything. I was overweight, I wasn't feeling great. I was embarrassed to be me, to have people recognise me.''

Barlow said he became so full of self-loathing that he began to overeat, piling on five stone.

He also refused to pose for any photographs - even at his own children's christenings.

Новость с фейсбучного апп!
Gary Barlow, man of the moment, is sitting opposite me in his private recording studio, telling me how he once felt so full of self-loathing he would disguise himself on train journeys to avoid being recognised. This was during the period when Take That first split up, Barlow's solo career had tanked, he had not become "the new George Michael" as predicted, and his old bandmate Robbie Williams's career had gone stellar, with Williams attacking Barlow in the press as variously "selfish, stupid and greedy", "a clueless" and "really dated".

"I was living in Cheshire at the time, going to London and back on the train," says Barlow, a mug of tea perched on his knee. "I used to heavily disguise myself, with a hat and everything. I was overweight, I wasn't feeling great. I was embarrassed to be me, to have people recognise me. I did this for about three years, every day."

The night before the reformed Take That put out tickets for its comeback tour, a nervous Barlow went out with a friend and got drunk. "I'm not a big drinker, so it's rare I start feeling tipsy. But this night I went for it. I woke up the following morning and I had 27 missed calls. All the tickets had sold out. That was the moment I realised: shit, this is big; we're back." How did he feel then? "Amazing. That day was the first time in years that I got on the train, took my hat off and just sat there. People were coming up and being so nice. It felt so good. I felt so, I don't know…" Barlow pauses, searching for the right word, "valid again."

The newly reformed Take That had one of the most successful pop comebacks ever, topped off by Barlow's former nemesis, Robbie Williams, rejoining. Then Barlow joined the new panel for The X Factor, currently enjoying better ratings than when Simon Cowell was on board.

Barlow joining The X Factor was a masterstroke. After paying his dues over two decades, he exudes an "elder statesman of pop"-style poise that lends his comments gravitas and credibility. It seems there's also been a shift in public perception. Rather than "Gary Barlow of Take That", he's just "Gary Barlow". Not only that, Barlow is being hailed as a fully fledged "hottie". Slim, toned, usually wearing slightly alarming V-neck sweaters with nothing underneath, Barlow sits on the panel gleaming like a regenerated Sun King. Which is all a bit of a turn-up for the oft-termed "least fanciable" member of Take That, who was once so unfashionable that Victoria Beckham denied working with him, and Madame Tussauds melted down his waxwork to make Britney Spears.

Meeting Barlow at his London studio, I find him embroiled in one of his many charity projects. Recently he persuaded, among others, Lady Gaga, Coldplay, JLS and Elbow to perform at the Children in Need Rocks show at Manchester's MEN in November. Now he is completing the Children in Need single, a cover of Massive Attack's "Teardrop", featuring himself, fellow X Factor panelist Tulisa Contostavlos from N-Dubz, and the Collective, a sprawling troupe of hip urban artists including Ms Dynamite, Tinchy Stryder, Labrinth, Mz Bratt, Dot Rotten, Ed Sheeran, Chipmunk… and a heavily customised "street" Pudsey Bear.

The first thing Barlow does is whisk me and his publicist into a screening room to watch the video. The artists in the Collective were mainly suggested by Contostavlos, and Barlow (more Ivor Novello than Rizzle Kicks) cheerfully admits that there were "a couple" he hadn't heard of.

Later we settle on sofas beneath a skylight, Barlow sprawled casually in jeans and a sweater, looking lithe, designer-stubbled and, it must be said, fairly happy with life. I tell him that for long-time fans like myself, it feels strange, even galling, to witness people fawning over him. "It's funny because when we came back in 2006 we had our fans who'd been with us right from 1990, and they were like: 'Who are all these new people?'" They get possessive over you? Barlow smiles: "Yeah."

Take That, he says, has "the best audience of any band". What about the reports of the drunken, marauding middle-aged fans on their last tour? "I think they drank Croke Park dry in Ireland – apparently there wasn't a scrap of alcohol left when we left there," Barlow shrugs. "So long as no one is getting hurt, I think it's brilliant."

Barlow is similarly dismissive about the myriad X Factor dramas, including that of Ceri Rees, who many felt was too mentally vulnerable to audition. "I don't want to single out any one case, but it doesn't matter if you're 90 or 16 – the show has been on long enough, people know what it is." Is there really a power struggle between him and Louis Walsh for the head judge spot? "No," he grins. "It's quite clearly mine." What about Cheryl Cole getting fired from The X Factor in America? "I tried to stay out of that," he says firmly. Barlow organised the Comic Relief Kilimanjaro climb, which Cole took part in, and they've remained in touch. "But I've specifically never mentioned it when we've talked. I don't know what went on; I don't know who's to blame. I don't need to know."

Barlow, who has The X Factor "boys" category, knew Cowell back in the early days of Take That. "He was exactly the same as he is now – charismatic and good company." Barlow definitely seems to be getting into the spirit of The X Factor – at the end of our first meeting, when I ask if it's OK to come back, he intones jokily: "It's a yes from me!" But I wonder what motivated Barlow to become a judge – it isn't as if he needs the exposure. Barlow tells me that, first and foremost, his children, Daniel, 11, Emily, nine, and Daisy, two, were thrilled. He's also genuinely interested in finding an artist. "I want them to be making lots of great albums, not just one."

In a way, Barlow also did The X Factor precisely because he didn't need the exposure. "People go on these panels to improve their career, or they've got something coming out," he says. "I'm really glad I don't have to go [he gives a cheesy grin]: 'What a brilliant audition – now excuse me, everybody, I need to go and do my new single now', or 'Check out my new book. It's in WH Smith!' It's funny because all the reasons someone would do this – the money, to become more famous – I've got them already. I've joined just because I wanted to."

Barlow seems to relish being active. "I'm not a good time-off person," he says by way of understatement. "I'm awful on holiday." He considers this for a moment. "It comes from having that period when I didn't work. That really was the worst bit. It wasn't not being famous any more, or even not being a recording artist. It was having nobody who needed me, no phones ringing, nothing to do. Because I'm still too young to do nothing. I was only 24 when all that happened. Now, at 40, I feel I've got more to give than I ever have."

As we talk, Barlow opens up about how lost and beaten he felt during those years spent wandering aimlessly around his Cheshire mansion. "It was all a bit of a torment," he muses in a way that suggests he is still trying to make sense of it. "I had this beautiful white piano, my lucky piano. Every hit I'd had I'd written on this piano. Within six months of this not happening any more, this piano drove me mad. To the point where I spent days just looking at it, lying underneath it, lying on top of it, rubbing my face on it, going slowly insane, trying to work out why this thing wasn't delivering to me like it used to." Does he still have the piano? "Yeah," he jerks his head behind him. "It's downstairs."

All through this time, Barlow refused to sing, or let anyone take his picture, not even at his childrens' christenings. He also over-ate to the point where he put on 5st. "It was like: now I'll never get back onstage, because I look like this. Job done!" You'd successfully sabotaged yourself? "Yeah." Was it depression? Barlow pauses thoughtfully. "I think maybe it was – and I'm not really a depressive person."

Later, when I observe that despite everything, Barlow must have known he'd survive, there's the briefest of pauses, then he shakes his head slightly. "No," he says quietly, almost mumbling. But he seems like such a steady, rock-like character. "Yeah," sighs Barlow. "I'm a bit surface like that. There were definitely points where I lay down for surrender."

No wonder the comeback made Barlow so nervous, especially after Take That was told by some promoters that it wouldn't work without Williams. "I thought: they're so right, all we're going to be is" – he gives a Seaside Special-style wave – "'Here are some old hits from the 90s!' It didn't feel good at all." Didn't they realise their fans were waiting for them? "No," says Barlow. "We didn't think anyone was waiting for us."

Looking back at the early days of Take That, he marvels at how ambitious they all were – five young strangers thrown together into a boy band. "It was much more manufactured than what goes in X Factor. It was another level." Barlow reflects: "We gave ourselves away a lot that first time. What this industry breeds, and it's always something I've got to check myself on, is desperation. That feeling of: 'I'll do anything.' Because it's so desirable, the honey of what we do – it's so beautiful."

Barlow feels that the seeds of his feud with Robbie were sown early on, when not only was he anointed lead singer-songwriter by then-manager Nigel Martin Smith, but he also cast himself as the business brains of the band. "It was great at first: 'Let's ask Gaz what he thinks.' But then everyone turned against me." You became the "dad" to rebel against? "That was definitely the Robbie issue," muses Barlow, rubbing his face. He sighs. "But the Robbie one's a hard one. It's so complicated…"

At exactly this point the publicist appears to wind up the interview. It's such a cliffhanger-style moment that Barlow bursts out laughing. "It's like EastEnders!" he cries, doing the dramatic drum roll.

It's fitting that Barlow mentions EastEnders since it's undeniably the love/hate feud between him and Williams that provided a heightened sense of soap opera to Take That. Once reunited, the pair even milked their twisted bromance on their tongue-in-cheek Brokeback Mountain video for "Shame", flinging off their shirts and smouldering at each other on a mountaintop.

At my second meeting with Barlow, we settle down in the same positions, on the same sofas, under the same skylight. This time Barlow is sipping a glutinous-looking berry power drink, looking "very LA" for a boy from Frodsham, Cheshire. Barlow is telling me that, while overall he loved the experience of Take That mark 1, the gruelling boy-band schedule and gnawing feelings of "dispensability" (real or imagined), took their toll. "I understand why Robbie might feel he missed out on his teenage years, some of his childhood. A little bit of that niggles everyone about those days."

Barlow doesn't think that the initial Take That reunion could have happened with Williams because they needed to be on an equal footing. Indeed, when they did reunite, it was Williams whose career was at a low ebb. I point out that Gary, of all people, could have been forgiven for saying: stuff him. "I wanted to have him, though," says Barlow. "I was probably the most desperate out of everyone. It just gives our story a nice end." He says that the "end game" was always to get Williams back, "to put the five of us back up there. It's just funny that when it did happen, Robbie was in his own little crisis world. Around the same time, Mark went through his bit of trouble [Owen confessed to multiple on-tour infidelities]. Between us, we all kind of helped each other, and that's how it should be."

In Barlow's opinion, Williams hasn't received enough recognition for his creativity. "I think Guy Chambers [Williams' writing partner circa "Angels"] gets a lot of his credit. I've been in a studio with both of those two, and I must say that Robbie is a big contributor to what he does." As for the cruelty specifically directed at Barlow by Williams, Barlow brushes it off as "just part and parcel of the time – all the backbiting, egos and competition".

I'm not so sure. When Williams helped Barlow at Judges' Houses on The X Factor, they were lovely together, even bantering about their feud, but for this nosy old Take That fan, there still seemed the tiniest crackle of unresolved tension. But never mind them – what about Howard, Jason and Mark – they must get heartily sick of "The Robbie and Gary Show"? Barlow nods: "They're totally sick of it. It's all Rob and I ever talk about: 'When we were falling out…' They're like: not this story again! But I think they were relieved that it ended. Because everyone played their part – it wasn't just me and Robbie; it was a band problem, really."

Away from Take That, one wonders if Barlow is enjoying his personal regenesis. After all those years as "least fanciable", how does it feel for him to hear that "Gary is the sexy one now"? "I've had that for years though," he insists, deadpan, adding: "I suppose now and again I do a photo shoot and it's like: wow, I'm going to send these pictures to my wife [Dawn] with the caption: 'See how lucky you are.'" Barlow grins, shakes his head helplessly. "I don't know what else to say – anyone who takes that stuff seriously, well…"

Barlow mentioned Owen's marital troubles earlier; why does he think he and Dawn, who have been married for 15 years, avoided the same problems? "I don't know," he says simply, "I must have just picked the right one."

A huge blow for Barlow, who enjoyed the "perfect upbringing", was his father Colin dying in 2009. "You're reminded that all this stuff we've talked about is nonsense! It's important, but it isn't." To Barlow his father represented safety. "It's funny to think that it's now me in charge." Barlow shakes his head sadly. "That's how grief is more than the loss of a person – it's the realisation of who you now are. A hard-hitting: 'You're next. That crown is yours now.'" Barlow says that its made him realise how brief life is: "It's a cliché, but you've got to enjoy it. I've got this attitude with people now: if you're miserable, go home; don't stay here, don't ruin my day."

The interview is drawing to a close. Barlow tells me that, where usually he'd have an album or tour lined up, for the first time in ages he's "winging it". "I might do X Factor next year. It's looking good that I won't get the sack at Christmas." It seems as good a time as any to ask what drives him. Barlow says that, for him, it's not about financial motivation any more: "Money is obviously a really important part of the conversation right now. But it's been years since money meant anything to me. It's always just been there. In music, if your songs sell well, and your tours sell well, then the next week a cheque arrives; it takes care of itself."

And while a psychoanalyst might say that Barlow dangerously over-identifies with work, much more than is healthy for him, it seems yet deeper than that. I'm not sure he even views it as work, rather as an extension of himself. Even now, Barlow says, he writes constantly. "It's always been a great friend of mine, a therapy for me."

His ultimate aim is just to keep making music, "reminding people what I do". "And I think people need reminding, always, why I'm here," says Barlow.

"The thing is," he continues, "it's all so exciting. I'm excited every day I get into my car to come here – what are we going to do today? I know it's not going to last forever, but I'm in a great place now. Even when I look back on my down years, I think: thank God that happened. What kind of character would I have been now if it had all been smooth and great and brilliant? Who would I be now? I wouldn't be me, as I am, and actually…" Barlow's voice trails off reflectively, "I quite like being who I am." That's when it strikes me about Gary Barlow's "elder statesman of pop"-style poise. It's not only newfound, it's hard won. It's probably where he wanted to be all along. It suits him.

Что помогло Гари стать таким каким он есть сейчас или как стать Гари Барлоу
X Factor: Give your man a Gary Barlow make over

Can someone tell us at what point Gary Barlow became so hot? Saturday night TV has a whole new attraction now that X Factor has some proper eye candy with the gorgeous Gaz.
Puffy and pasty no more, the 40-year-old is a vision of tanned, toned manhood and we can’t get enough of him.
Gary’s biggest transformation has been his weight loss.
Following Take That’s break up in 1996 he ballooned to 16st 8lb. With a BMI of 34.7 he was obese and last week confessed: “I felt s***. For someone so big, I felt incredibly small. My weight gain was about food because I was shoving it in my mouth. But it was more about a reaction to who I’d been. It was a form of depression. The fat was a protective coating.
“It would take me three rolls to get out of bed and I was wearing XXXL tracksuits.”
But with a nutritionist and a personal trainer he shed 4st and now works out religiously. His wardrobe was also re-vamped by celebrity stylist Luke Day.
The idea of turning your man into Gary might have been laughable once. But not anymore...
The diet.. get Gary's low-fat look

4tbsp reduced-fat hummus with 1 carrot.
The clothes..
If the man in your life is happy to let you dress him, then this one's in the bag. Snap up some of our key Gary looks and your other half will score top X Factor style marks.
Gary showed everyone who had the X Factor when he presented prizes at our Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, wowing us in a slim-fitting grey suit and skinny tie.
Grey suit jacket, £75, matching trousers, £35, white shirt with black tie, £30, black shoes, £45, all Next.
Arriving at Heathrow, Gaz looked tanned, fit and sizzling hot in chinos, Havaiana flip flops and a blue fitted tee.
T-shirt, £8.95, Gap; Chinos, £30, River Island; Havaianas, £22.99, Office; glasses, £9.50, Sekonda watch, £39.99, both www.asos.com.
The workout..
Celebrity trainer Nick Mays (www.figureworx.co.uk) devised a great fat-busting weight workout to do 3-5 times a week. Use 5kg dumbbells or a couple of large water bottles. Aim for 3 sets each.
Warm up/cardio: Five minutes of running, skipping, burpees.
Chest and triceps: Dumbbell row: With one knee and hand resting on chair, make rowing movements with the opposite arm, holding weight. Do 10-15 reps on each arm.
Bum and thighs: Forward lunge: Holding weight, step forward and bend knee to floor. Push back to standing. 10-15 reps then change leg.
Stomach: Stomach crunch: Lying on back, hands on thighs, raise up head and torso, sliding hands up towards knees. Hold five seconds then lower to floor, slowly and controlled. Repeat for a minute.
Thighs and bum: Squats: Stand with legs apart, weights in hands. Slowly lower bum as deep as you can, keeping back straight. Slowly return to start. Repeat for a minute.
Shoulders: Shoulder press: Holding weights in both hands, push up towards the ceiling until arms are straight. Slowly lower. Repeat for a minute.
How to get.. ..Gary's hair
Your first trip should be to a good hairdresser. Gary's had some hair-raisers over the years - highlights, spikes, comb overs, curtains, you name it. He's finally cracked it with this style. His short back and sides is slightly longer on top with a sweep to one side. And no grey hairs!
..his designer stubble
Being brutally honest, it's the sexy stubble that's transformed Gary from rough to rugged. But this is a carefully orchestrated look. Always meticulously trimmed, Gary keeps his stubble at optimum length. But then he does have celeb make-up artist Liz Martins to help.
..the golden tan
Unless your man is jetting between LA and London, like Gary, he's unlikely to have a year-round tan, which leaves only one option - faking it. Women have for years and now there's L'Oreal for Men's Hydra Energetic Tanning Moisturiser (£9.79, www.boots.com). It's 'for men' so he'll use it.
Eat like Gary..
X Factor boss Simon Cowell reportedly shared his secret smoothie recipe with Gary, who now advises his X Factor contestants to have one for breakfast.
Si also told him not to eat bread, potatoes, pasta, rice or high carb snacks, like crisps, in the evening - but Gary prefers to avoid carbs and sugar altogether.
Instead of fatty burgers, sausages and cheddar, choose lean steak, lean pork, chicken, turkey, cottage cheese or fish.
Eat smaller portions - "If you control portion size you can eat what you want," Gary says.
Snack on healthy foods, like nuts, instead of sweets. Gary munches carrots.
And he allows himself one cheat day a week, but he still doesn't go crazy

Gary Barlow admits he is an ''awful'' person on holiday because he hates having to take time off.

Gary Barlow is "awful" on holiday.

The 40-year-old singer - who has three children with wife Dawn, Daniel, 11, eight-year-old Emily and two-year-old Daisy - hates having nothing to do, which he believes was due to his stint in the pop wilderness after his solo career floundered in the late 1990s.

He said: "I'm not a good time-off person. I'm awful on holiday. It comes from having that period where I didn't work. That really was the worst bit.

"It wasn't not being famous any more or even not being a recording artist. It was having nobody who needed me, no phones ringing, nothing to do. Because I'm still too young to do nothing."

During his time out of the spotlight, Gary comfort ate and saw his weight balloon by over 70lbs, and he admits he was subconsciously sabotaging his chances of success.

He told Observer magazine: "It was like, 'Now I'll never get back onstage, because I look like this. Job done!"

Despite his struggles, Gary - who reunited with Take that in 2006 - doesn't regret any part of his life because the experiences have made him the person he is today.

He said: ""Even when I look back on my down years I think, thanks God that happened. What kind of character would I be now if it had all been smooth and great and brilliant? Who would I be now?

"I wouldn't be me, as I am, and actually I quite like being who I am."

THE name is Pashley... Paul Pashley - and the Sheffield big band singer has been licensed to thrill by James Bond car makers Aston Martin.

Paul was in oh, oh heaven when he got the secret mission to sing at the invitation-only Yorkshire launch of new supercar, the One-77.

It costs a cool £1.2 million.

But Paul isn’t shaken or stirred by the price - in fact, he’s stepping up a gear to hit the big time, with major record deal plans which could see him at the wheel of one.

Rock superstar Bryan Adams and Take That’s X Factor judge Gary Barlow, along with Sheffield Grammy award-winner Eliot Kennedy - the X Factor’s new producer for talent development - have already written new songs he’s recorded.

And unlike the private car launch - at the Brooklands Aston Martin dealers in Lower Wortley, Leeds - he will be showcasing the new material, along with his own swing band take on rock and pop hits, plus swing standards, at a charity event tomorrow night at Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre.

Paul, with his 17-piece big band and special guests, is supporting plans to expand Amy’s House, the Sheffield respite facility for children with special needs.

He said: “The Aston Martin launch was a great gig. What a car. But I can’t wait to showcase our new material and for such a worthy cause.”

Paul’s special guest is Doncaster 19-year-old Katy Bullock, another new find from Eliot Kennedy’s Steelworks stable.

Promoted by LGI Enterprises, the Amy’s House fundraising concert is sponsored by Irwin Mitchell Solicitors and MCA.

Tickets, now limited, are £20. Call 0114 249 6000, or log on to sheffieldtheatres.co.uk or arenaticketshop.co.uk

Simon Cowell has a bit of Hugo Drax about him, Louis Walsh reminds me of Nick Nack and Wagner dressed like a Brazilian Baron Samedi.

Now Noel Gallagher has spotted some similarities between Gary Barlow's judging style and Ernst Stavro Blofeld — one of 007's most famous adversaries.

He said: "Gary's sitting sideways a lot. Just like some James Bond baddie, isn't he? Where he kind of swivels round, 'Ah, yes, you're just not good enough'.

"Gary's all right, I've met him a few times, he's a good lad."

Former Oasis star Noel is doing the rounds to promote his new album Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, which is out next month.

And he had strong views — just for a change — about the age of the contestants on X Factor.

Co-hosting Christian O'Connell's breakfast show on Absolute Radio, he said: "They say things like, 'Oh, you're great but you're too young'. Well, don't put her through in the first place, then. They shouldn't put a 16-year-old on that show.

"It should be at least 18, because what would happen, conceivably, if the public voted a 16-year-old into pop stardom?"

Noel also dished a bit out to Nick Nack: "Louis Walsh, he's mad as a box of frogs, isn't he? He lives in a parallel universe.

"You think to yourself, 'Do you get British TV in Ireland? Oh, you do get it? You do know what's on the telly?' I mean, he's insane."

Noel was offered Gary's gig by X Factor boss Cowell before the Take That star accepted.

But the guitarist turned it down because he didn't like the idea of disappointed kids crying in his kitchen.

Gary Barlow: Robbie Williams will be a brilliant dad

The X Factor judge sings the praises of cheeky Take That band mate
Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams
Gary Barlow believes that Robbie Williams will be a great father

Gary Barlow has spoken out about how he believes Robbie Williams will make a super father.

‘I think Robbie will make a brilliant dad,' says Gary, 40.

‘He's got the mind of a 9-year-old! In all seriousness though, he's great.'

Robbie, 37, who helped The X Factor judge pick his final acts for the live shows, married Ayda Field in August 2010.

But he still feels he's not mature enough for children.

'When I go past Hyde Park and look at mothers with prams and dads with footballs, I think: "Oh no!" I already look knackered as it is,' Robbie admitted last year.

'Heavens knows what's going to happen to me once I have a kid.'

Gary - dad to Daniel, 11, Emily, 9, and Daisy, 2 - is sure Robbie will adapt. His own trio are thrilled about their father being on TV every week.

'My son sits playing Nintendo all the way through my concerts, they're not mad about what I do,' he tells the Daily Star. 'But being a judge on X Factor, they couldn't believe it.

'They are absolutely loving it.'

Michael Bublé is set to team up with X Factor judges Kelly Rowland and Gary Barlow for his Christmas TV special.

Michael Buble - spreading some festive cheer!

Reality show mentor, Kelly, will duet with the Canadian crooner for the first time to sing a festive classic on ITV's Michael Bublé: Home For Christmas. And Michael will chat to Take That's Gary alongside his other celebrity guests, including Dawn French.

Following the success of his previous shows, An Audience With and This Is Michael Bublé, the critically acclaimed performer will be recreating his own Canadian luxurious winter retreat on TV.

"I'm thrilled to do this show", said Bublé. "Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I'm looking forward to being in all your living rooms celebrating the holidays."

The show will tie in with the release of his new album, appropriately entitled, Christmas.

As a teenager, Gary Barlow imagined that writing a million love songs was the perfect expression of how boundless his love could be. In 2011 his compliment works less well – on current evidence it would be about a morning's work.

Last week Matt Cardle released a Barlow composition called Run For Your Life. Next month controversial Britain's Got Talent mini-man Ronan Parke's album will also include a new Barlow tune (Stronger Than I), and Westlife's next single, Lighthouse, is yet another new song from the Barlow catalogue. Impressive stuff, particularly as Take That's last album is just 11 months old, and an extra eight-song bonus album came out in May. But there's more: having helmed (and looked very serious in the video for) this year's Children in Need single, Barlow will also give yet another brand new song to the next X Factor winner.

"How does he do it?" is a fair question and, based on that Matt Cardle single, "by not always exercising rigorous quality control" seems like a suitable answer. It's certainly true that the quality of the songs he has donated to those less fortunate has varied in quality almost as wildly as that of the artists themselves. (In recent years he has also provided songs for, among others, John Barrowman and Peter Kay's comedy creation Geraldine McQueen.)

Perhaps during his wilderness years Barlow behaved as if nothing was wrong, like the sacked stockbroker who leaves for work each morning then spends his day on a park bench next to an empty briefcase. The idea of Barlow diligently penning an album's worth of new material in time for non-release every Christmas for eight years would certainly explain the song mountain being slowly dismantled in 2011.

But the crucial point was Simon Cowell deciding, with the arrival of X Factor USA, to go on holiday and leave Barlow not just babysitting Louis Walsh, but with the keys to the pop kingdom. To most pop stars this would signify party time. Gary "sensibleface" Barlow, remembering those years spent reading Take a Break on the park bench, knew this was his chance to make himself indispensable, and cast himself as the "Simon Cowell it's OK to like", even though he's still a very big Tory supporter.

After the X Factor winner's single, the Children in Need tune and all the rest, I'm actually warming to the idea of Barlow as pop laureate. It makes sense for there to be an inspirational Barlow-ballad for every occasion, whether it's a Eurovision song contest that needs winning, a royal couple requiring a first dance or a World Cup squad demanding an anthem. It's just amazing that the 2012 Olympics have so far escaped a Barlow-penned allstar singalong. "Team GB" has a bit of a ring to it, don't you think?

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) officials will consider fast-tracking Take That star Gary Barlow to the top of their annual Sexiest Vegetarian celebrity list - if he keeps up his meat-free diet.

The singer/songwriter has revealed he has given up meat for a month as part of a health kick and Peta bosses are hoping he finds his new diet so rewarding he sticks to it - and they'll honour him if he does.

A spokesperson for Peta tells WENN, "If he continues to follow a vegetarian diet, we think he'd be a good contender for Peta UK's Sexiest Vegetarian contest. After all, there's nothing sexier than a guy who chooses a humane diet over one that hurts animals.

"We hope that after Gary experiences some of the many health benefits associated with a vegetarian diet - including increased energy and being less prone to heart disease, cancer, and diabetes than meat eaters - he'll decide to make the change permanent and join a growing number of other public figures, like Carrie Underwood, Russell Brand and Natalie Portman, who have opted to think before they eat and forgo meat.

"If Gary is still a vegetarian in June 2012, he'll definitely be up for the title. Of course, he'll face stiff competition from Peta U.K.'s reigning Sexiest Vegetarian, The Wanted's Jay MCGuiness."

All good, boys sound great.Off to rehearse with Michael Buble now for his Xmas special.

He later added:

Great rehearsal, shooting the show tonight, what a top bloke mb is

Gary headed back down to the studio last night to tape his appearance and afterwards told fans:

Just come off stage.went well.homeward bound.

Michael Bublé will front his own TV special on ITV this December titled ‘Michael Bublé: Home for Christmas.’

X Factor's Gary Barlow: My parents never encouraged me to hog the limelight

The Take That star always loved an audience
Gary Barlow | X Factor Auditions Birmingham 2011 | Pictures | Photos | New
Gary Barlow was always drawn to stardom

As he skilfully appraises this year's X Factor contestants, it's hard to believe Gary Barlow has ever been anything other than self-assured and successful.

But prior to his polished performances as a judge on the show and before he became a boy band icon and bestselling solo artist, Gary, 40, was just an ordinary lad living on a council estate, crippled by shyness yet dreaming of stardom.

He was raised in a modest red brick bungalow in Frodsham, a small market town in Cheshire.

Money was tight for the Barlow family.

Gary's dad Colin ploughed fields for a local farm and took another job with a fertiliser company to earn extra cash to bring up Gary and his older brother Ian, who's now a builder.

Neither his dad nor his mum Marge, a teacher, was musical.

In fact, Colin's interests were far more quirky - he bred pigeons in the back garden and used to get Gary to perform magic tricks for his friends when he held his pigeon club evenings.

‘My parents never encouraged me to hog the limelight, but I got good enough at the magic for my dad to take me along as the entertainment,' Gary remembers.

‘It didn't matter what I was doing - it was the audience I loved.'

Гари Барлоу возможно поработает с Тини Темпой
Tinie Tempah To Work With Gary Barlow & Chris Martin
He’s also asked The Script and Dizzee Rascal to appear on his next album...
11:15, Sunday, 23 October 2011

Tinie Tempah has compiled a wish list of acts he wants to appear on his second album, the follow-up to Disc-Overy.

The Pass Out rapper has approached an eclectic list of musicians including Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and Take That’s main songwriter, Gary Barlow.
WATCH TINIE TEMPAH LIVE FOR MTV HERE

"I want to work with people I’m a huge fan of and respect. It doesn’t matter who they are. The main thing is it works with the track and sounds good,” Tinie explained.

The Brit Award winner said he’s in advanced discussions with several big names about appearing on the LP. “Chris Martin, Gary Barlow, Big Sean, Dizzee Rascal, The Script, Shingai from The Noisettes are all people I’ve spoken to face to face and it’s looking really good,” he told the Daily Star.

"I'm making all the executive decisions at the moment so keep your eyes peeled,” Tinie said, adding that he hoped the album, produced by Labrinth, would have a different flavour to his first.

"We're really concentrating on not just recreating the first album, but coming up with something fresh and exciting."

Tinie kicks off his UK arena tour in Liverpool on 31 October.

HE was named Q Classic Songwriter but plans for another Gary Barlow solo album are on ice.

The Take That man is happy writing for other acts, including chum Robbie Williams on his new solo disc.

Gary, who plays London’s Albert Hall on December 5 and 6 told me, left: “I’m doing a couple of solo shows before Christmas but I’ll not keep songs for myself, even though I write all the time.

“I’m touched to get this Q Award. Back For Good would be my personal Classic Song from all those I’ve written.”

And while he’s soaring in his role as an X Factor judge, Gary has found the show tough.

He admitted: “It’s been 10 times harder than I expected. We’re all so involved.”

But Gary is determined not to get involved in the “bullying” scandal started by Louis Walsh, 59, on Saturday. After he and Tulisa claimed 30-year-old Kelly Rowland’s finalist Misha B, 19, was causing strife backstage, Gary refused to get drawn in.

He said: “I will judge on what I see.

“I have no respect for what Louis has done musically. Westlife have done well but everything else… No.

“I feel very protective of my acts. I don’t know what to do with Frankie.

“He’s brilliant but I need something back. Get your f***ing songs learned.”

Gary vows Take That will return as a four-piece next year.

Gary’s special gig orchestrated for Children In Need hits Manchester on November 17.

After getting it he said: "If you told me even a year ago I would be picking up a songwriting award in a room with Noel Gallagher, Coldplay, Queen and U2, I would have laughed you out the room.

"I'm really chuffed about it. Will I do a solo record again? The songs are coming and I'm enjoying writing for others, I'm just enjoying the whole thing."

He was also savouring Manchester United's horror defeat at the hands of bitter rivals City.

He said: "That was brilliant. Just brilliant. As a Liverpool fan it was a sweet moment to see them humbled.

"I only follow one man on Twitter who is worth bothering about, King Kenny Dalglish."

It wasn't just Man Utd he was laughing at – Louis Walsh came in for some criticism too.

He said: "Do I respect Louis? Well, Westlife did all right but apart from that... no."

And on that wee shandy pants fud Frankie Cocozza, he said: "There's a bit of Robbie in him.

"He likes a night out. His voice isn't the strongest but he's got something."

He does indeed Gary, probably crabs.
