| The Take That singer expressed hope that his forthcoming ninth studio album - recently described as his best record yet - and an accompanying tour will allow him to achieve the goal.

Williams told The Mirror: "It's very important for me to feel like I am competing, more so than ever. I haven't wanted to go out there and be the best in the world since 2005.
"I am looking forward to going out on tour, doing promo and kicking arse. Someone has to be the best in the world right now and I want to aim for that, and if I don't make it I want to be somewhere near it. This year will be the best year of my life."
Williams said that he is also hoping to make improvements in his personal life and become a "better husband" to wife of 16 months Ayda Field.
"I want to be a better husband. I want to be a better guy and I want to be as happy as I can be," he said. "I also wanna get really fit next year... [and] look the best popstar I can look at that time."
Williams confirmed in October that his latest album would be released under a new deal with Universal.

Robbie Williams has nightmares about being killed by terrorists.
The 'Rudebox' hitmaker has had trouble sleeping recently and can't remember the last time he had dreams as horrific as the nocturnal visions he has been experiencing.
He told the Daily Star newspaper: "I had a dream the other night that a sectarian group was trying to kill me. I have not had a nightmare like that for a long time, forever really, but a certain paramilitary group came to kill me."
Robbie - who is married to actress Ayda Field - recovered quickly from his night time terror when he realised the realistic visions were just dreams.
He added: "But I suddenly woke up and saw my brother-in-law Rich from Stoke-on-Trent at the bottom of my stairs at my home in LA and knew everything was all right."
The 37-year-old singer has previously admitted to spells of paranoia in the past and spent the entire of the summer in 2008 holed up in his Los Angeles mansion, before emerging disguised in a gorilla suit and wearing a pair of sunglasses.
The shop manager who sold him the suit explained: "He spent a long time trying various costumes before he chose the gorilla suit and bought it for $60."

Sir Paul McCartney says Robbie Williams held him up from making 'Kisses from the Bottom'.
The Beatles musician has wanted to make an album covering old rock 'n' roll standards for a number of years, but kept getting beaten to it by other artists such as Robbie, who released 'Swing When You're Winning' in2001, and Rod Stewart, who has recorded five instalments in his 'American Songbook' series since 2002.
In a live web chat, Paul Explained: "Every time I came to make this album someone else would make one. As soon as I thought 'now's the time', Robbie Williams came out with one. And I thought, 'I can't do it now because it's gonna look like I'm jumping on his bandwagon.'
"Then it settled down and just as I thought, 'now's the time,' Rod Stewart comes out with one, so I thought 'oops, can't do it now'.
"But I ended up with a different direction to anyone else, and the songs are not quite as well known as the ones other people have done."
Paul, 69, admitted he was both inspired and a little intimidated when he went into the famous Capitol Studios in Los Angeles with Diana Krall to record the album.
He added: "When I came in to make the album, I didn't know how I was going to do it, but I wanted some inspiration so I thought, 'I'm not going to answer that question until I get on the mic'.
"We were in Capitol studios, the iconic studio where Nat King Cole, Sinatra, Dean Martin, all these guys recorded and it felt a little bit intimidating because I had no idea what the record would sound like, we chose the song, and then started Diana started working it out, and we did it very organically."
'Kisses from the Bottom' - a collection of covers and two new songs by Paul, 'My Valentine' and 'Only Our Hearts' - is released on February 6 in Europe and February 7 in the US.

Robbie Williams is to host an exhibition of his art work.
The 37-year-old singer has turned the garage of his Los Angeles home into a studio and he is now planning to showcase his best paintings.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "His stuff has been getting better.
"I don't know if he plans to sell them, but I am sure they would fetch a good price.
"It would be something to talk about when people ask who'd done the painting on your lounge wall."
Robbie - who is married to actress Ayda Field - previously revealed he had taken up painting during preparations for Take That's 'Progress Live' tour last year.
He revealed on his blog: "I have been flying round the world on promo with the TT lads and loving it ... amazing. In our down time ... which hasn't been much, i found I really liked painting - of course I then had to turn my whole garage into 'art club' and got all my la mates into it too. (sic)"
The 'Angels' singer's wife, actress Ayda Field, has even discovered her artistic side since her husband started splashing his brush around.
He added: "Ayda did one too, I'll try and find that and show it to you."

Powered by The Echo Nest, OpenEMI is an open-API platform that makes artists’ content – music, photos, videos and more – available to developers of apps, websites and other services.
The addition of the biggest-selling solo artist in the UK to the platform’s offering, announced here in Cannes, means the potential reach of the type of apps — like those being made at midem hack day right now — is now enormous.
He then explained how the major works with developers in a revenue-share arrangement; and shared some examples of OpenEMI applications in the pipeline, including a rather impressive Blue Note app containing the legendary imprint’s entire repertoire. He also explained EMI’s partnership with The Echo Nest, which provides the technical platform for OpenEMI’s musical “sandboxes”

Robbie and Mark splash Take That tour cash on graffiti and sculpture
TAKE That didn't spend their money too wisely in the 90s – Gary Barlow invested heavily in biscuits and Robbie Williams sank his royalties on booze.
But now Rob and Mark Owen are pumping some of their profits from the Progress Tour into art.
Mark's just splashed out £20k on a painting by an edgy graffiti artist to mark his 40th birthday.
And Rob is paying a sculptor to make a life-size statue of wife Ayda Field for his back yard in LA.
A source said: "Mark bought a painting by a London street artist called Bambi. It's of an 80-year-old woman called Mrs Welsh who is a character in a trendy part of London. Mark is really into urban art and has some other pieces from top UK talent. He's become a serious collector."
It's good he's buying British.
And Rob's investment is even more unconventional. He has been hunting for the right person to immortalise his missus in bronze or stone.
Over the past few years he has been spending hours in his own gallery coming up with Andy Warhol-inspired oil paintings. His tinkering with art got him thinking about sculpture and he shared the plans with friends over dinner.
The source added: "Robbie likes the idea of a tour of his gardens telling the story of his life since moving to LA. Ayda is a big part of that, along with his reunion with the band.
"It's a wacky idea but, knowing Rob, will be something he gets stuck into. He's even thinking of having copies of their dogs made. Some people have garden gnomes, Robbie wants copies of his real-life family."
He has also had 100ft robot OM, from The Progress Tour, shipped over from England for his back garden on Mulholland Drive.
His neighbours must be very understanding.

We’ve been having a bit of Take That withdrawal lately. It’s been over one WHOLE month since we had Gary Barlow on our TV every week on the X Factor and we haven’t seen Robbie Williams in what feels like ages. Luckily, Rob’s been blogging to keep our dose of man-band-gossip at a stable level.
If you’ve been wondering what Robbie Williams gets up to in his spare time, the answer appears to be mainly marveling at his hair. Rob’s recent pic shows him dressed Saturday Night Fever-style (and looking pretty fit), saying, “Fancy dress night from our jollies… I was John Travolta.”
It’s his hair stealing the spotlight though, with Rob explaining, “I’m growing my hair as I fear it might be the last time I can!” The hair is great… but really we just want to see his SNF dance moves. Take that as an official request please Mr Williams! We’re expecting a video any day now.
It seems all this chat led Robbie to reminisce about his past hair triumphs, or perhaps failures would be more accurate, with his latest post continuing “the hair theme.” He says, “When I was 14 I got a perm… I shaved a dollar sign into the back of my head… the chicks must have dug it… check me out!”
Well it appears the chicks did dig it and in a bid to rekindle the love of his perm, Rob has launched a search for this curly-hair-adoring fan club. “So, if you are one of the ladies in this photo, a challenge… where was it taken…? Tell me I’d love to say hello at one of my gigs… xxx”
We don’t know about you, but we’re about to mock up some shots of us with stonewashed denim and leather bomber jackets. There can’t be that many places this picture was taken, surely?

We never forgot Robbie
ROBBIE Williams has been reunited with his first fans.
He may be a cardboard cut-out but still, at least the fans are real.
The singer found an old photo featuring himself and four ladies from the 1980s, below, and wanted to know their whereabouts.
Bizarre gave his search a nudge and managed to track down Vanessa Price, Diane Barker, Louise Eley and Sarah Jones.
Their original meeting with Robbie was reminiscent of a storyline in The Inbetweeners — but far less sordid.
Vanessa said: "It was at a caravan park in Scarborough in 1988. Robbie's dad was working there for the season as a compere and had a staff caravan we went back to. He must have taken the photo.
"Robbie was a really good dancer. We used to stand in a row in the nightclub there with him in the middle and we'd face this long mirror and do the dance to Blame It On The Boogie, all moving our heads at the same time.
"I remember him having loads of holes in all of his socks. We used to take the mickey out of him all the time for it.
"He did tell us that he had just joined a band, but it would have been really early days then."
Wonder what ever happened to them?

Russell Brand proved to be a controversial host at the BRIT Awards in 2007. The comedian and now former husband of Katy Perry's presentation poked fun at everyone from Robbie Williams to The Queen, who was the subject of some rather lewd jokes. Unsurprisingly, the event attracted more than 300 complaints from viewers who were unhappy with Russell's job as host.

The brief friendship Robbie Williams enjoyed with Liam Gallagher in the mid-90s had clearly ended by the time the former Take That star arrived at the BRIT Awards in 2000. After being dubbed "the fat one" from Take That, Robbie took to the stage to ask the audience if anybody would like to see him fight the Oasis man. "Would you pay to come and see it? Liam, a £100,000 of your money and a £100,000 of my money," he said. Sadly, Liam wasn't there to answer Robbie's challenge in person, but he did respond later that year at the Q Awards

The newly opened football stadium, Cluj Arena, in North Western Romanian city Cluj – Napoca, could host several concerts this year, according to the Romanian media. The administrators of the arena are currently negotiating with four artist management companies. Bryan Adams, Robbie Williams, Jean Michel Jarre and Roxette could hold concerts at the Cluj Arena, but the city council hasn’t signed any contracts yet, so none of the names has been confirmed.
Swedish pop band Roxette had their first gig in Romania last year in capital Bucharest. A potential concert in Romania this year is not on their list of confirmed gigs, according to the band’s website. Romania is not on the list of Bryan Adams’ upcoming gigs either. Jean Michel Jarre has had two concerts in Romania so far, the most recent in 2010 in Bucharest.
Cluj Arena is the former Ion Moina stadium in Cluj – Napoca, which was rebuilt with a EUR 35 million budget. It can seat 30,000 people and was inaugurated last fall, with a concert held by rock legends Scorpions. The concert drew 40,000 spectators.

| Celebrity Big Brother runner up Frankie Cocozza has revealed that both Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams watched him during the house earlier this year.
Frankie, who finished in second place behind Denise Welch in the show back in January, continued: “Robbie Williams watches it and all.
“He said he enjoyed watching me and said well done, and said he kept an eye on what was going on [in the house] this year.”
Big Brother returns to Channel 5 in May.

| Gary and Robbie to be "friends forever"
Gary Barlow has offered to write tracks for Robbie Williams if he goes through a "sticky patch" while putting together his latest solo album.
Patience singer Gary - who was estranged from his Take That bandmate until they reconciled in 2010 - is constantly writing new songs, and though he knows the Rudebox singer is capable of penning his own material, is happy to help if needed.
He said: "I've written some stuff already, actually, with Rob.
"I mean, Rob writes all year round. But I always said to him, 'If you get a sticky patch or whatever, I'll come in and reignite all that stuff'.
"I'm someone who's always creating, writing - I've always got ideas. So he can use me whenever he wants."
Robbie returned to Take That for an album and tour last year and although he is now going back to his solo career, Gary believes they will be friends forever after patching up their differences.
He added to the Daily Telegraph: "I do feel like it wasn't just an 18-month thing with me and Rob. I think we'll be friends forever now."
At the end of last year's Progress Live tour, Gary promised the rest of Take That - Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Jason Orange - a year off, but still stays in contact with his band mates socially.
He said: "I promised everybody a year off. Cause we've pretty much done album, tour, album, tour for five years. So I said to everyone as we left the tour, 'I'll call you in a year.'

| Take Fat As Robbie Muscles In (The Sun)
ROBBIE WILLIAMS has been training four hours a day for four months to turn his keg into a six-pack.
The singer was determined to get into shape and not look like the token fat lad when he lines up alongside his old TAKE THAT bandmates.
He's been working with trainer NICKY HOLENDER, the man who helped whip MEL B into shape.
Nicky said: "He's gone from being overweight and not looking so good to being an athlete. He's worked his a*** off."
The former footie pro puts Robbie through his paces five days a week and went on holiday with him to continue their regime.
He has even managed to persuade Robbie to cut down on chocolate.
Nicky said: "He has become very careful about what he eats and in four months he now has a full six-pack going on.
"All I'm doing is getting him to eat well and then he can have his sweet stuff on his cheat days. He has so much muscle."
Nicky, an ex-Peterborough United and LA Galaxy footballer, is now turning his attention to wiping out Robbie's other major vice – smoking.
He said: "It's the best thing he could do for his body. He's come such a long way now and done so well that quitting the fags would be the biggest goal."
That will be tough – Robbie smokes like a chimney.
