| X Factor judges cull over 70 Boot Camp acts without hearing them sing
The X Factor judges axe over 70 acts before they have even had a chance to sing on tonight's first Boot Camp show.
Tulisa Contostavlos, Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger ditch over a third of the 211 acts that they sent through the audition stages without giving them any further chance to impress.
"We've got 72 hours up here for Boot Camp, it's not long. Anyone at this point we don't feel is going to cut it, we should send them home," says Barlow.
"We've made a good call today and it gives the other two thirds of people who are left a good chance of learning something going forward in this competition."
Before the acts are dropped from the competition, they are treated to a party and a surprise appearance from former X Factor finalists JLS.
Offering advice to this year's acts, JLS star Oritsé Williams says: "This is an opportunity that comes once in a lifetime, so you have to make sure you take it with both hands, you know who wants it the most, and it's who wants it the most that will get it."
Louis Walsh backed the decision to axe the acts, commenting: "I know we are doing the right thing. I know it's tough, but that's show business."
Barlow adds: "It's tough but the thing to focus on now is the ones we have put through, it's their shot this week."
After the cull, the acts are put into groups of three and challenged to compete against each other with a song choice given by the judges.
The X Factor Boot Camp auditions start tonight on ITV1.

| X Factor 2012 bootcamp: Gary Barlow hated Britt Love, Deirdre Lawlor & drunk Collagen Westwood
Britt Love, Deirdre Lawlor and Collagen Westwood were put together at X factor bootcamp earlier this year and we think it’s fair to say that they did not mix well.
The trio of solo singers were asked to perform together for the judges, during the first of the challenges set for hopefuls, but Britt and Diedra were not happy to be singing with someone who was very obviously under the influence.
Collagen admitted to producers:
“I’m not going to lie; I’ve had like one or two whiskeys which I have smuggled in.”
Britt was furious and hit out at the plastic surgery addict, blasting:
“I’m really annoyed because she’s really quite drunk and I can smell it on her, it’s not fair on me and my other member. You know some people are here just to be on TV.”
Things didn’t get any better for the ladies when they took to the stage either and after Collagen, Britt and Deidre performed for the panel, Gary Barlow blasted:
“I have to say that was awful, absolutely awful, that’s the worst audition of the day!”
Collagen wasn’t taking his crap though and she ranted:
“Gary isn’t the holy grail of singing, I think Gary is just a bit mean anyway, I thought that from the beginning, I never really liked him, he was a bit horrible.”

| By its very name Bootcamp is supposed to be hard and it certainly was for a third of the 211 X Factor acts who made it through the audition stages of the show, because that’s how many were sent home before even getting the chance to sing.
While the acts were having a right good knees up at a party thrown for them, the evil X Factor judges, Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger, Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh were plotting their demise and sorting the wheat from the chaff.
“We’ve got to be brutal,” Gary said with those steely, but still sexy eyes of his.
Meanwhile, like lambs to the slaughter, the hopefuls were being talked at by JLS in a semi-patronising way.

Or who had already been chosen to go into Bootcamp.
Those that did get the chance to perform had to do so with other acts: girls with girls, boys with boys, overs with overs and groups with groups, which caused the (probably) desired squabbles. The show’s been struggling with ratings this year after all.

Gathan, Rylan and Ottavio sang Respect, although there didn’t seem to be much of it between them.
“I think personally, Gathan is trying to say he is better than me and Rylan, because he can sustain a Falsetto, but there are things that I can do, that I am pretty sure he can’t do. Like I have breathy tones and I don’t think he can do that. I asked Gathan when Rylan was in the toilet if he thought Rylan can sing; he said ‘to be honest with you, no’.”

After spending 24 hours arguing though, the boys managed to secure themselves a place at the next day’s Bootcamp. Their tantrums are pretty showbiz already after all.
It was a testing time for three favourites from the auditions too. Jahmene Douglas, who completely stunned the judges with his amazing vocal when they first met him, struggled to sing Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5.
“Jahmene we have been up and down the country and I’ve got to tell you, you were the best singer we have seen in the whole of the audition tour by far, miles,” Gary said before adding: “That was like listening to a totally different person today. Based on that today I would be sending you home right now, no question about it at all.”

Thankfully he was given another chance to return to Bootcamp and try again.
It doesn’t look like homeless guitar player Robbie Hance will be quite so lucky though. He struggled to mix with other contestants and was seen snoozing on a sofa instead of practising with his two fellow contestants Jake Quickenden and Adam Burridge.

While singing in front of the judges, Robbie forgot his words, put his microphone down and walked off the stage, past Dermot O’Leary.
“I forgot my lyrics and there’s no point waiting around for someone to tell you you’re not going to go through,” he said afterwards. “I know I’m the only one here with nothing to really lose but at the same time I have just lost a whole lot more than everyone else. I suppose self-destruction was the key of today.”

And audition audience hit Lucy Spraggan, who played a guitar and sang her own self-penned song to get through to Bootcamp, was totally at sea without her trusty instrument.
“I sing and play guitar, I don’t just sing, I’ve never been on stage without my guitar, I don’t even sing karaoke because I’m so bad at singing without my guitar. Oh God,” she said before performing a pretty ropey version of Moves like Jagger.
The judges took pity though and allowed her to go through to the next day.
All those who made it through this stage of Bootcamp return in Sunday’s show for the final stage when they will perform in front of an arena full of 5.000 people. No pressure then.

| Gary Barlow predicts Rylan Clark will haunt him throughout The X Factor this year, after his final bootcamp performance.
Stepping out on stage to the judges and thousands of fans at Liverpool’s Echo Arena, Rylan is seen in a rather fetching outfit.
He explains: “So today is like the climax of outfits if you like. We’ve got the blazer, we’ve got the spikes going on, I feel like I’m going to poke myself in the face. Just loving life in general really, I’m hoping Nicole’s gonna like it because she likes a bit of this.”
He tells the judges: “This is my only chance I’m gonna get to show you guys what I’m all about and I’m a dancer that’s what I want to be. I wanna sing dance songs, Ibiza all the way through and through. I’m not a Whitney wannabe, I’m never ever gonna be a Whitney. Trust me on that one”
Singing Don’t Cha by the Pussycat Dolls, Ryan tells the panel: “I am serious about this, especially to you Gary I ain’t taking this as a joke. I enjoy myself while I’m here but this is 100% serious, and if it gives me the opportunity to do this in front of these guys again I’ll be honoured, so thank you that’s it.”

Nicole jokes: “I adore him. I’m sold on the spikes and sparkles right now”

| Simon Cowell made an appearance on tonight’s X Factor show and was first seen calling Gary Barlow and telling him which category he would be mentoring this year.
The music mogul told the Take That star:
“OK, so we have given it a lot of thought, me and the producers, and the category you are going to mentor is….The over 28’s.”
Barlow seemed chuffed and replied:
“Oh wow. Brilliant! That is good news to my ears.”
The dad of three will be working with Kye Sones, Melanie Masson, Nicola Marie, Brad Shackleton, Carolynne Poole & Christopher Maloney at judges houses and next week, will be seen choosing between the six singers, choosing just three for the live shows.
He thinks he’s the man for the job too and added:
“I feel like in recent years, the overs has become a bit of a joke category and I really want to restore what the overs should be this year. There are people over 28 with talent!”

| A customer services manager at a Liverpool-based housing association is to be mentored by pop star Gary Barlow in the next stage of ITV's the X-Factor.
Liverpool Mutual Homes’ (LMH) X-Factor star Chris Maloney successfully passed the Boot Camp audition last night and will now be mentored by Take That star Gary Barlow.
Chris, 34, has received the full backing of LMH, which is drumming up support for the singer.
LMH’s director of housing and neighbourhood services, Angela Forshaw, said: “Chris has done fantastically well to get so far in a very tough competition and everyone at LMH would like to say ‘well done’ – we are all incredibly proud of him.
“We are hoping Liverpool and the rest of social housing will get behind him and help him on his way so he can maximise his talent that is clear for everyone to see.”

| Simon Cowell is reportedly angry at Gary Barlow after he brought Cheryl Cole back to The X Factor.
We’ll see this weekend former X Factor judge Cheryl back on the show, helping out Gary at his judges’ houses.
Cheryl joined the Take That star at a stately home in England to decide on which of the three overs to take through to the live shows.
But Simon wasn’t happy with the choice, angry that Gary went over his head!
“Simon and Gary have never got on,” a source claims. “It’s no secret that Simon didn’t even want him to the panel to begin with.
“So when got Cheryl ins without even telling Simon, did did not go down well at all. Simon said it was undermining him a the show’s key decision maker.”
Speaking to Star magazine, the source claimed that Simon wanted to bring Cheryl back himself!
The supposed insider explained: “It really got Simon’s back up that Gary got Cheryl back on the show, he wanted to bring her back himself.
“He felt that it was just to stick two fingers up at him and he was angry about how secretive it was.”
Cheryl is also due to perform on the live shows, which kick off on October 6 on ITV1.
The X Factor 2012 continues this Saturday and Sunday on ITV1.

| There’s just two days to go until The X Factor 2012 judges’ houses air, and this year’s X Factor finalists are revealed.
On this weekend’s The X Factor on ITV1, Gary will be Lord of the Manor at a stately home in the rolling English countryside to meet the Overs; Nicole is at a luxury resort in Dubai with the Boys; Tulisa is on the Caribbean island of St Lucia to greet the Girls; while Louis is in the city that dubs itself the ‘entertainment capital of the world’ – Las Vegas with the Groups.
The mentors each have a very special guest to help them make their decisions – Cheryl Cole joins Gary, American RnB artist Ne-yo is with Nicole; Brit award winner Tinie Tempah is in St Lucia with Tulisa; and Sharon Osbourne joins her pal Louis in Vegas.
The contestants sing with a live piano or a guitarist in a bid to secure their place in the Live Shows – and not only do they need to impress their mentor, they have to blow their special guest away too. The Judges will each pick three acts to take through to the Live Shows.

| X FACTOR bosses are hoping to win back viewers with a new twist to this year’s live shows – the introduction of wildcard contestants who were previously dumped by the judges.
The final 12 acts going through to the live shows will be revealed on Sunday night’s judges’ houses episode.
But the judges — Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger, Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh — have also been told to choose one wildcard act each.
These four will then go up against each other in a public vote next week, with the winner getting to perform with the 12 other finalists the following Saturday.
The four wildcards — who we’ve chosen not to name — have already been picked and are currently living it up in the five-star Corinthia Hotel in central London with the other finalists.
A show source said: “We like to add new twists to the show every year and this time the public get to choose an act to be added to the competition. With the standard so high this year, the judges had a tough time choosing their three, so this gives another amazing act the chance to perform on the X Factor stage.”
The four wildcards will be unveiled on Sunday night’s X Factor on ITV1 — and phone lines will be open for the public to vote for their favourite from the end of the show until midday on Saturday.
The act with the most votes will then perform with the other 12 finalists on the first live show on the following Saturday night.
Last week, TV Biz revealed how a a shake-up of the live shows was being lined up to try to win back the two million viewers who have abandoned the show.
Last year’s sudden-death elimination, in which the four judges were forced to axe one of their acts without a public vote, has been ditched.
Bosses are also hoping to spice up the live performances with star appearances. US rapper Ne-Yo and former winner Leona Lewis are the first confirmed acts.
Creative director Brian Friedman is also flying in from Los Angeles to plan the shows and has further big ideas.

The Overs are particularly strong this year, and Kye Sones is a potential winner for us and a certain to make the live shows.
After missing out last yea, we’re also tipping Carolynne Poole to make the cut, but once again the last spot could be a tough pick.
Both Melanie Masson and Christopher Maloney will be battling for the last of three places in the final, and we’ve no idea who Gary will want to pick!

| Gary Barlow has revealed he nearly walked away from the X Factor last year after finding judging such a tough job.
The Take That star, 41, wants to enjoy his role this time and plans to have a “lighter” persona for the live shows.
Asked if he thought about quitting, he said: “Yeah. It was hard, yeah, yeah. If I’m really honest, I’m not really a fan of hard work.
“There’s a lot of pressure, it really is massive. Last year, I’d sit down feeling so nervous.
“I was on tour while we were doing the auditions last year and it was hard work.
"I always felt miserable when I arrived because I was knackered.
“This year, I’ve enjoyed the bad ones more than the good ones.
“I’m almost disappointed when they come out and they’re good. I hope to be a bit lighter this year.”
Gary has the over-28s this year and is holding his judges’ houses auditions in a stately home in Northamptonshire after opting to stay close to his family following the heartbreak of daughter Poppy being stillborn.
He says being on X Factor has made him an even bigger celebrity.

| GARY BARLOW nearly QUIT X Factor last year after the “massive” pressure of the show left him struggling to cope, he has revealed.
The Take That star – who mentored the boys – said: “I did come close to quitting, yeah. It was hard.
“When you become part of this machine, you’re on something that’s moving and you’ve got to try and stay on board. There’s no jumping off.
“There’s a lot of pressure – it really is massive. I remember last year – on Sunday nights in particular – if I knew one of them was in the bottom two, I’d feel so nervous.
“And you’d watch this spaceship swirling around knowing that millions of people are watching and it was out of your hands, and you’d just feel sorry for them.”
He added: “I just want to have more fun this year – and I have done already. I was on tour while we were doing the auditions last year and it was bloody hard work.
“I always felt miserable when I arrived because I was knackered already. But this year I don’t feel like I’ve done anything yet! It’s been fun.”
Gary also revealed he can’t wait to turn the reputation of the Over 28s category on its head.
The singer said: “I’m excited. I think for too many years this category has been a bit of a joke. I used to call it the ‘over and outs’. But I had my eye on this category. They know who they want to be as artists.
