| Gary Barlow can't predict who is going to win 'X Factor'.
The Take That singer - who is mentoring the Over 28s category this year - is clueless about who may go on to be crowned winner of the singing contest because everything changes during the live shows.
He said: "It's impossible to predict who's going to win until you get further into the show.
"You can't watch the first audition and say, 'That's the winner!' It doesn't work like that. It's hard. The strongest and the most focused get to the final and we're only just getting to know these guys.
"They've all got the talent but have they got everything else? We'll have to wait and see."
Gary is confident his group - made up of Melanie Masson, Carolynne Poole and Kye Sones - is better than the Overs category ever has been before.
He told Hello magazine: "I just want to go do something really good with the category this year. And make them really relevant - and I think the three we have are the ones to do it.
"I think my category know who they are, who they want to be, how they want to look and how they want to sound. So essentially your job is to be there when they have a problem."
The first 'X Factor' live show begins tonight (06.10.12).

| Gary Barlow has insisted that the X Factor is a great launch pad for contestants but said it is their responsibility to make it work when the series ends.
The Take That star will take his seat on the judging panel once more this evening, for the first live show of the year and he hit out at those who criticise the format for not producing acts that enjoy long and successful careers.
The dad of three told The Telegraph:
‘People always criticise, saying they only last five minutes or whatever, but that’s down to the contestants.’
Gary thinks that the huge Twitter following obtained by appearing on a show like The X Factor, as well as the nationwide exposure is a huge advantage for their artists and continued:
‘There’s a point where you can help them, but then they’ve got to take their own reins and say, “OK, I’ve been on X Factor, I’ve got 50,000 Twitter followers.” That’s a brain then; an artist and a person with an ambition going, right what do I do next? If you’re having to be told by a label or management, then it’s not for you, this spot, it’s for someone else.’
We just love how honest Gazza can be!
Tonight, he will sit alongside his fellow judges Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh and Tulisa Contostavlos and no doubt, before the end of the live show there will be some sort of spat or tension between the stars.
Barlow insisted that the rows and arguments aren’t fabricated, neither are the critiques of the acts pre planned. he added:
‘We don’t all sit in a room and go, “Right, how do we entertain everyone tonight?” I think it’s a show designed to make you competitive. It’s tremendous fun, but it’s also a bit of a game, as long as [that] doesn’t come at the cost of the artists. If you’re playing a game which gets a really good act eliminated, that’s where I draw my line. And knowing all [of the judges], I don’t believe any one would take that route. I hope not, anyway.’
Gary will appear on the X Factor in just a few hours time and already he’s busy in the studios with dress rehearsals and last minute run throughs.
He praised the show’s host Dermot O’Leary on Twitter just a few moments ago, telling his followers:
‘Watching @radioleary do his camera and script rehearsals ! He’s the heart and soul of #XFactor #lovehim’
We love him too, but not as much as Gary.

| Nicole Scherzinger stunned viewers when she chose Rylan Clark to be in her final three Boys on The X Factor.
And while she certainly believes in the Essex wannabe, her fellow judge Gary Barlow certainly doesn't think he can sing.
Appearing on tonight's episode of The Jonathan Ross Show, when the host brought up Rylan, Gary said: 'Come on Nicole, you’ve got ears.'

Defending her act, Nicole replied: 'His voice has grown and he’s not a big ballad singer, he’s a great performer.'
Despite disagreeing over her act and their jousting on the panel, Gary insists the judges are actually quite close in real-life: 'I think we’re all quite protective of each other although the gloves do come off on a Saturday night.
'We have a go at each other, we have a few jokes and we pick on each other, but none of it comes off the stage. It’s all for the fun of the show.'

Despite clashing with Geri Halliwell when she was guest judge during the auditions, Gary insisted he was fond of the former Spice Girl.
He explained: 'I've known Geri for a long time, she is a sweetheart, but I think she arrived that day thinking, "I've got a job at last," and she really went for it and the producers were loving it and telling her to go more and of course there’s the result right there.'
Gary managed to surprise Jonathan Ross by admitting he liked to drink while filming ITV2 spin-off The Xtra Factor, which goes out live following the shows on ITV1.

After Jonathan joked Gary likes to get drunk on the show, Gary admitted: '(I like) any red wine. I’m picky with food, not with drink...
'That is actually slightly true. I don't drink during the ITV1 show but as we flip to ITV2, and I realise less people are watching, my tea arrives and it has got red wine in it.'
Meanwhile, Nicole also spoke of her recent move from America to the UK, but admitted she wasn't living with on/off boyfriend Lewis Hamilton, who resides in Monaco.

She said: 'He doesn’t live in the UK... Unfortunately everyone’s like "you guys are going to be together all the time," but the races and the live shows.'
When asked when they would be getting married, Nicole replied: 'I don’t know you’ll have to ask him.'
The Jonathan Ross Show is on 10.20pm on Saturday 6th October on ITV1.

FUMING Gary Barlow has threatened to quit X Factor if a similar shambles to Sunday’s deadlock drama ever happens again.
The Take That singer, 41, summoned host Dermot O’Leary and show chiefs to an emergency meeting to discuss his ultimatum last night.
The head judge is said to want to “put a stop to tricks” and end “pantomime” on the show.
Barlow is on the warpath after Louis Walsh appeared to take guidance from ITV supremo Richard Holloway in Sunday’s live show.
Louis, 60, bottled the obvious decision to send Rylan Clark home — and left it to a phone vote which cruelly ended angel-voiced Carolynne Poole’s hopes.

Last night — 48 hours after walking off in protest at Rylan’s stay of execution — Barlow met ITV boss Elaine Beddell and X Factor executive producers O’Leary and Holloway for showdown talks.
Show bosses had been under the impression that Gary would walk off the show. But The Sun can reveal he will return this weekend — on the condition that his demands are met.
An X Factor source said: “Gary is fiercely proud of his reputation and signed up for the show because he wanted to nurture genuine talent. The reason he wanted to be on it was to put a stop to these tricks and to stop insulting the artists and viewers.
“The pantomime some of his fellow judges bring to the show drives him insane and he believes it undermines the credibility of the whole show. Sunday’s antics infuriated him. He was livid.
“He called a dinner for last night and issued an ultimatum — if this ever happens again he is off. No questions asked.
“Gary is demanding that genuine talent should always be recognised ahead of pantomime acts like Rylan who might pull in a few more phone votes for the novelty factor.”
Holloway defended his role in the debacle in yesterday’s Sun. He said: “We never tell judges what to do.”
On Monday Gary tweeted: “Been hard to get motivated today.” He wished Carolynne good luck for the future.
