STARS including F1 driver Lewis Hamilton and acclaimed actress Dame Judi Dench are supporting a Liverpool cancer charity – by donating their shoes.

The Roy Castle Lung Foundation, based in the city, has brought celebrities from the worlds of sport, music, film and television together to take part in De-Feet Lung Cancer campaign.

Stars including Spice Girl Mel C, Take That’s Gary Barlow, actress and presenter Terri Dwyer, Fearne Britton and glamorous WAG Alex Curran, have all pledged a pair of their favourite shoes for an online auction.

And there are some fantastic once-in-a-lifetime collecting opportunities available, with Lewis Hamilton’s Monaco Grand Prix shoes up for grabs, as well as the pair Dame Judi Dench wore as M in a Bond film.

Inspired by the charity’s namesake, song-and-dance man and presenter Roy Castle, who died of lung cancer, the campaign is challenging the general public to think on their feet and help to raise money for the foundation.

There are lots of ways to get involved with the De-Feet Lung Cancer campaign – which is focused on Friday, September 12 – whether it be a sponsored tap-a- thon, running, walking, dancing, skipping, hopping, jumping or encouraging workmates to swap shoes for the day.

Boxer Ricky Hatton said: "I am used to defeating my opponent in the ring, so I'm delighted to get behind the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation’s De-Feet Lung Cancer campaign.

By getting involved with De- Feet, you, too, can help give lung cancer the knock-out blow."

Dragon’s Den star Duncan Bannatyne is also backing the campaign. He said: "Many people don’t realise that lung cancer is the UK’s biggest cancer killer.

"The De-Feet campaign aims to raise public awareness about the reality of the disease. The message is serious, but the campaign is proposing some really good fun and quirky fundraising ideas that everyone can engage in, so there’s no excuse not to get involved, even if you have two left feet."

Sir Cliff Richard, a personal friend of Roy Castle and Life President of the charity, added: "I am delighted to support De-Feet, which endeavours to raise awareness and funds to help defeat this terrible disease.

"I’ve donated a pair of shoes, hopefully not too smelly, to be auctioned on De-Feet Day, and I hope there’ll be lots of keen bidders! I would like to encourage everyone to support this important campaign to raise much-needed funds for its life- saving work.

"De-Feet is a great way to support for the Foundation’s work – go on, choose your unique pair of celebrity shoes from the auction list, and start bidding."

“Funny enough, we didn’t even meet each other,” Barrowman says of the Take That star.

“When I did my first album I said that when I did a second I wanted Gary to write for me. I think he is a great songwriter – one of Britain’s best songwriters. I love Take That so it was always a dream of mine that he’d write for me.”

When Barlow heard Barrowman’s recording of his song, he called him up.

“He said it was fantastic. I hope in future Gary will play when I sing.”

While Barlow won’t be at the Faenol Festival – which opens on the Faenol Estate, near Bangor, tonight with a performance by Boyzone – Barrowman will be joined on stage by Jodie Prenger, the woman who won the role of Nancy in the new West End production of Oliver! after wowing him and his fellow judges on I’ll Do Anything.

Gary's on song for TT musical

Gary Barlow has revealed that, in the lead-up to the departure of Never Forget from London’s West End in November, he is considering penning an official Take That musical charting his band’s rise to fame.

The singer dubbed the hit show “lazy”, adding he “was never happy with the idea”.

Now, Gary, 37, who is due to star in this year’s Marks & Spencer Christmas TV ad, has told me, “We have a musical in us and if we can all agree on which bits of the story to include we’ll have a hit show.”

Tantalisingly, Gary added, “It would be good if Robbie [Williams] got involved, too – after all, he is part of the story.”

It will be Peter’s second No1 single after his cover of I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by THE PROCLAIMERS.

And I can reveal Geraldine is also releasing a Christmas single, which could give Peter his third chart-topper.

Geraldine has been busy on location this week filming the video for the track — Once Upon A Christmas Song, which Peter wrote with Gary.

The manband star should take heed of the awkward chart predicament facing young Leon this weekend.

Once Upon A Christmas Song will be going head-to-head with none other than Take That’s The Greatest Day, the first single from their new album.

I’m sure a chart No1 and No2 would be a very tasty Crimbo pressie for Gaz — regardless of the order they come.

TAKE THAT star GARY BARLOW is reportedly in talks to launch his own record label.
The boyband singer, who pens most of the group's hits, is said to be in negotiations with officials at Universal Music with a view to give him the power to sign upcoming artists.
A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "It's a masterstroke. With Gary's incredible writing ability and contacts, the acts will be the best possible hands."

John Barrowman revealed his dream has always been to record a Gary Barlow song.

The Torchwood star is delighted that his new single What About Us was written by the Take That frontman.

John said: "When I had my first meeting for my first album Another Side which was out last year the record company asked me if I had a dream song and I said my dream song would be an original song, written by Gary Barlow and nothing else was mentioned of it.

"I finished the first album, we went in to have my meeting for the second album and before I could open my mouth they handed it over and said 'Here's your Gary Barlow track.' So they went and searched it out for me," he said.

John was then delighted that Gary approved of his performance.

Gary rang me. He said he loved it and thought I did some really great stuff with it, and now it's being played on the radio. Hooray!"

The actor and singer added it was strange to hear it on the radio.
John confessed: "The first day I was in the car I actually thought I'd put the CD on by accident. I thought my CD in the car player had just started and then I realised I was actually on the radio. It was awesome."

Gemma Atkinson wants to record a song with Gary Barlow.

The former 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' contestant - who shot to fame after starring on Channel 4 soap 'Hollyoaks' - is keen to further her music career and thinks a collaboration with the Take That star could be the way forward.

She said: "When I was a kid I had Gary Barlow's poster on my wall and now I'm hoping that he'll say yes to writing a tune with me, too."

Gemma - who is engaged to soccer star Marcus Bent - also revealed while she had fun competing in the ITV reality show last year, she has no intention of returning to the Australian jungle.

She added to New! magazine: "It was a brilliant time, but I prefer my own bed thanks."

Gemma can next be seen starring as Peter Pan in pantomime at Manchester's Opera House, with performances throughout December.
