| British singer Gary Barlow's confidence was so shattered by Take That's split in 1996, his songwriting ability "evaporated".
The group disbanded in the 1990s and Barlow launched a solo career, but a lack of chart success hit the star hard - and he found himself unable to pen decent tracks.
He tells Britain's The Sun, "I don't know if it was writer's block because I would come up with stuff but it was just rubbish.
"I've always had a good ear, my intuition is good with new music, but I knew straight away that nothing I was coming up with was any good.
"Most of what you do - the big part of you - is gone, it's evaporated. Your question is, 'Is it going to come back?' I ended up with no confidence as a writer.
"You are not going to come up with anything without confidence. Doing something with all your confidence stripped is hard - it would have been better to take 10 years off."
The star has since gone on to pen songs for other artists including Dame Shirley Bassey, Charlotte Church and Will Young, as well as for the reformed Take That after reuniting the group in 2006.

| IF his singing career ever stalls, Gary Barlow is guaranteed a role starring in Aquafresh ads.
The Take That star has revealed he rediscovered his mojo in an LA supermarket - looking at toothpaste.
After a few years struggling to make it as a solo singer in Britain, Gary relocated the family to California to make a career out of writing songs for other artists.
And it was only when he started doing average chores like the weekly shop that he started to get some inspiration back.
He said: "It was great. I was doing stuff I hadn't done for ten years.
"I would walk into a supermarket and go, 'Wow, look at all the brands of toothpaste - this is unbelievable.'
"I had a year of getting my life back and I watched my son cough, sneeze and walk for the first time."
Gary was always a legendary writer of pop songs but he admits the break-up of Take That and his inability to make it on his own left him unable to drum up any decent lyrics for years.

He compares his situation post-Take That to a once successful football team that is now struggling.
He said: "It's like taking confidence away from Premier League winners. They play properly but the luck doesn't come their way - and it's exactly the same as a creative person.
"You are not going to come up with anything without confidence. Doing something with all your confidence stripped is hard - it would have been better to take ten years off."
Shame Lee Ryan never did that.

А с чего вы взяли что она бедная, я не думаю что она страдает от его невнимания мне кажется что наоборот он ее обожает. Кстати вот что он пишет про нее в своей книге: "She is the best wife any man could ever dream of having and i owe her more than words can say."

| MyS, ну обожать то может и обожает, но внимания ей уделяет очень мало это очевидно (работа такая ). А что он еще в книге мог написать? Что она плохая жена?

Он мог вообще ничего про жену не писать. Работа-то работой, и когда тур вместе ездили тоже думаеш не уделял внимания :D. Точно все равно никто не знает поэтому спорить дальше не хочу.

OLLY Murs has moved on from being Robbie William' biggest fan - and developed an obsession with Robbie's bandmate Gary Barlow.
Essex lad Olly and Gary have become pals while working together filming this year's X Factor.
Although Olly seems to have got a bit carried away.
He said: "Gary is like a George Clooney and has come out of nowhere as this hunk. He just gets better as he gets older. He's going to be the new pin-up of 2012."
Next he'll be asking him out for a steak dinner. At least married Gary - replacing Simon Cowell as a judge - can give the Xtra Factor host advice on his love life.
Olly, who releases new single Heart Skips A Beat on August 21, said: My love life is pretty average. I'm still 100 per cent single. I sort of met someone and it was going well but I just think at the moment it's too difficult.
"I'm too busy to settle down with someone but we'll see. It's a bit of a Catch-22 situation."
And it sounds like Gary isn't the only new judge to have caught Olly's eye.
He said: "Kelly Rowland is a fitness fanatic. She is incredibly hot and very fit.
"She hits the gym at 1am and is always at it. She works very hard and has the longest legs I've ever seen in my life and an amazing body."
He'll be comparing Kelly to Clooney next.

| GARY Barlow has a proud musical heritage carved out on the tough working men's club circuit in the north of England.
But his piano-playing fingers are firmly on the pulse of what young people are listening to. He knows the crop of pop stars they idolise.
And the Take That star has been quietly working on plans to bring the big names of the Bizarre Brrrap Pack together for his next big charity project.
The singer is calling on pals such as Tinie Tempah to help him assemble the best writers, rappers and producers to release the first urban charity single for Children In Need this November. And he is convinced it could be a massive No1 hit.
A source said: "Children In Need asked Gary to put a single together. He immediately said he wanted to get the cream of British urban acts together to write a No1 record.
"He has been impressed by the current crop of talent in the charts and has befriended some of the big names. He is really fond of Tinie and they have been trying to find the right project to work on together for a while.
"He has also produced tracks for N-Dubz in the past and knows them well. These guys are flying the flag for British music right now and they are the best choice for the track."
How about calling the track It Only Takes An Innit Girl or Brrrap For Good? Producers such as Labrinth, who co-wrote Tinie's biggest track Pass Out, have really impressed Gary with their hit-making skills.
The rest of the wishlist is long and includes Plan B, Professor Green, Chipmunk, Ironik, Example, Wretch 32, Devlin and Tinchy Stryder.
You could forgive Gary for taking his foot off the gas after the past few years.
As well as masterminding an amazing return to form for Take That, he has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief and organised an incredible charity concert at the Royal Albert Hall for Children In Need back in 2009.
So it's difficult to feel any envy at all watching him diving off a luxury yacht with his family and pal Jason Donovan in St Tropez, France, this week.
If there is one bloke in the country who deserves every penny he's earned, it's uncle Gaz.
