Gaz had the dark thought while snuggling up to DAVID BECKHAM, GORDON RAMSAY and CHRIS MOYLES in the Upper Class deck of a Virgin flight from LA to London.

I bumped into Gaz in West London and he joked: “I could just see how that would be written, ‘football star and top chef in plane crash’. Then in the last paragraph, ‘pop singer Gary Barlow was also on the plane’.”

Gaz was over in LA putting the finishing touches to the new Take That album with bandmates JASON ORANGE, HOWARD DONALD and MARK OWEN.

The first single is called Greatest Day and will be warming the ears of the nation for the first time at 8.15am on Monday across all radio stations.

Gaz will also introduce the new song, which hits shops on November 24, on Moyles’ Radio 1 breakfast show.

Since his return Gary has been grafting with comedian PETER KAY on a track for his spoof talent show Britain’s Got The Pop Factor...And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice.

Or BGTPFAPANCJCSSSOI for, er, short.

In the one-off show that airs on C4 at 8pm on Sunday, Peter stars as singer Geraldine, a contestant with a secret — she used to be a bloke called Gerry.

Gary told me working with Peter was as much fun for his two kids as it was for him. He explained: “He came round to my studio to work at the house recording the song.
“He had my kids doing the Amarillo dance, marching around the room in fits of giggles. His new show is brilliant, so funny.”
The winner of Sunday’s spoof will release a single on Monday, going head-to-head with last year’s X Factor winner LEON JACKSON.

Kay's McQueen to record Xmas single

Peter Kay's comedy character Geraldine McQueen will release a Christmas single.

The comic filmed a video for 'Once Upon A Christmas Song' in Manchester earlier this week. It features elves, dwarfs and McQueen dressed as Mother Christmas, according to The Sun.

McQueen, who appeared on Kay's reality TV show spoof Britain's Got The Pop Factor..., is currently at number two in the singles chart with 'The Winner's Song'.

Kay's festive tune, which was co-written by Take That's Gary Barlow, will compete with the X Factor winner for the Christmas number one spot.

Following the success of Peter Kay's Britain's Got the Pop Factor and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice, Channel 4 will air a series of special programmes featuring the comedian during the Christmas season.

Britain's Got An Extra Pop Factor And Then Some 2 + 1 is a follow up to Britain's Got the Pop Factor... and is a retrospective companion piece. Presented by Ben Shepherd, this one-hour spoof programme features a countdown of the best performances from the series as voted by the 'viewers', and exclusive interviews with this year's winner Geraldine McQueen, as well the chance to hear her new Christmas single 'Once Upon A Christmas Song'. The season also includes Peter Kay: Raider Of The Pop Charts, a two part documentary that reveals the story behind Peter Kay's numerous chart successes. The comedian’s spoof reality show winner Geraldine McQueen chose Mossfield Court, Halliwell, as the festive backdrop for the song.

Special-effects teams covered the entire cul-de-sac with fake snow and then invited its residents, famed locally for their brilliant annual display of Christmas lights, to star in the video.

The single is entitled Once Upon a Christmas Song and has been written by Peter and Take That’s Gary Barlow.

It will be released on Monday, December 15, with all the proceeds being donated to the NSPCC.

It will go head to head with the single released by the eventual winner of the real X Factor TV show, currently attracting big audiences on ITV.

GARY Barlow has revealed Peter Kay’s fake reality show winner Geraldine was never intended to release a single.

The Winners Song hit No 2 in the charts, but Take That man Gary, 37, who wrote the ditty, said: “It wasn’t meant to be a single but Peter likes dressing up so much he did it anyway.”

But that won’t stop Geraldine McQueen — otherwise known as Peter Kay — in her audacious bid to snatch the Christmas number one slot from under the noses of X-Factor chiefs. Today, battle commences for the coveted position, with more than a dozen artists and groups fighting it out.

And Geraldine is predicting great things for her catchy number — co-written with Take That’s Gary Barlow — called Once Upon a Christmas Song.

She said: “Simon Cowell is the Grinch that stole the Christmas single.

“I’m stealing it back for the people of Britain — and the NSPCC.”

Geraldine’s Christmas single will go head to head with the favourite, X-Factor winner Alexandra, who is 1/8 on to win.

The other two singles in the top four favourites list are Terry Wogan and Aled Jones, with their version of Little Drummer Boy (8/1), and Leona Lewis, with her version of Snow Patrol’s Run (8/1).
