Warning egotistical Williams to offer some fresh ideas for their new album, Progress, Barlow says: ‘Doesn’t matter what you’ve put on that table. You won’t have it unless you’ve come up with it.’

Later on Robbie says: ‘I didn’t sign up to be Gary Barlow’s backing dancer.’

Defending his ideas to the group, Williams says he thinks his song is ‘beautiful’.

But Jason Orange, 40, complains: ‘It is, but it is your song.’

Howard Donald, 42, wades in and says of Rob: ‘I’ve been sceptical about him coming back in the band.’

And it seems little Mark Owen is playing peacekeeper. ‘We have to find a way to agree on something,’ says the 38-year-old.

Finally, mulling over his decision to rejoin the group, Robbie, 36, admits his pop brothers are bigger than ever before.

‘This is the perfect time and the perfect moment. It just so happens they are massive,’ he grins.

A new ITV documentary, Take That: Look Back, Don’t Stare, to air on 13 November, shows the obvious tensions in the group, including a scene in a recording studio where Gary Barlow admits he finds it hard working with former nemesis Robbie Williams: “There’s always going to be an issue, me working with Rob.” Later Robbie wades in with: “I didn’t sign up to be Gary Barlow’s backing dancer.”

In a new interview with the Guardian to promote the documentary, Howard Donald admitted he was sceptical about Robbie’s return and is unsure how long he will stay. “It was amazing to see Rob and everything, but at the end of the day, I didn't really know him… We all wanted to do it and I wanted to do it. But in the back of my mind I was thinking, well, he could do anything tomorrow.”

Jason Orange also confessed he spent a long time resenting Robbie’s solo success. “Unfortunately all four of us, especially Gary of course, were being compared for 10 years with Rob's success,” he said. After Take That disbanded in 1996, Jason travelled around the world and went to college in Manchester, but was constantly reminded of his former bandmate.

“What did my head in, what really vexed me in the 10 years I had off, if I was on a beach somewhere in Thailand or at college – things I loved doing and chose to do – it was always going to be considered by other people as, 'Oh, he's taken a step down', 'Oh he's a failure', while Robbie's up there, 'Look at what he's doing now',” Jason remembered.

The 40-year-old also had a dig at Gary for hiring a camera crew to film the recording of Progress, saying he “hated” having cameras there for such a special moment. "I wanted to enjoy Rob, I wanted to enjoy the reunion privately… I didn't want it to be captured on camera, but it was. Gutted."

The BFI IMAX is a 500-seat state-of-the-art, large-format cinema on the South Bank. The screen is more than 20 metres high (nearly the height of five double decker buses) and 26 metres wide. It also has a 11,600-watt digital surround-sound system as well as the IMAX projection system which is the most sophisticated motion-picture projection system in the world.

GARY BARLOW organised for crews to capture the recording of new album Progress, which is released a week today.

Jason said of having to face the cameras: "I wanted to enjoy Rob. I wanted to enjoy the reunion privately.

"I didn't want me or any of us to be acting differently when there's cameras on.

"I didn't want it to be captured on cameras. But it was. Gutted."

The band will premiere the 90-minute documentary - entitled Look Back, Don't Stare: A Film About Progress - at London's BFI Imax cinema on Wednesday at 9pm.

It will also show on ITV1 at 9.30pm on Saturday.
