A TEENAGER from a Colchester estate has realised his dream of performing at the London Palladium...alongside Take That. Gerry Ennew, 19, of Hawthorn Avenue, Greenstead, Colchester, took to the stage in front of the Royal Family for the Royal Variety Performance.
Due to be aired on BBC1 on Thursday, the show will feature a series of stars including Cheryl Cole, N-Dubz and Susan Boyle.
Viewers will see ex-Sir Charles Lucas pupil Gerry take to the stage with fellow dancers from the Bodyworks Academy for the grand finale, dancing alongside Take That as they perform their hit single, the Flood.
Donned in body paint, wearing little more than a dance belt, Gerry’s moment of fame will be shown to millions of television viewers as well as a live audience, which includes Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla.
He said: “It was such an experience and really surreal.
“We got to meet Take That and they seemed really down to earth, nice guys. Robbie was even taking the mickey out of our outfits. One of my all-time dreams was to perform at the London Palladium, but I never expected to get to do it.”
Gerry, who took up dancing at the age of six, attended Colchester’s Stagecoach dance school until he was 14.
The youngest of six, Gerry left school at 16 and went to work for an insurance company, but his passion for dance soon took over and he spent his spare time teaching youngsters how to move.
Earlier this year, he auditioned for a place at dance school Bodyworks Academy, Cambridge, to study dance for four years. He said he was over the moon when they offered him a place and he started in September, working a few nights a week in a club to earn money.
Only weeks into his first year, he was offered the chance to perform at the annual charity bash.
His proud parents, Gillian and Gerry, have invited family and friends round on Thursday to watch the teenager perform. Mrs Ennew said: “I can’t wait to see him on the TV, doing what he loves.”
