The Sheffield rockers, gearing up to release third album Humbug next month, used to rate their Ivor as one of their favourite of the many shiny trophies they’ve had bestowed.

Drummer Matt Helders, 23, declared: “The Ivor Novello Awards used to feel like the most meaningful ones but I think they’ve been cheapened.

“I don’t want to be horrible to The Ting Tings but they won it and it’s supposed to be for songwriting. There’s a lot better songwriting ability out there.”

Despite that catty remark, the foursome, who headline the Reading/Leeds festival in August, have buried the hatchet with former foes Take That.

Frontman Alex Turner, 23, called them “b*******” at the 2006 Q Awards.

Talking in the new edit­ion of Q, on sale tomorrow, Alex revealed: “I’ve met Mark Owen a couple of times since and he’s the nicest man in the world.

“I was badly behaved – he understood. We needed something to say.

"Cantankerous youngsters getting overexcited.

“They went away and wrote Shine. That was the biggest ‘F*** you’ imaginable.”

Sticksman Matt went one step further, adding: “I want to be friends with Gary Barlow.

“I’ve seen him on telly and he seems a right laugh.

"Next year I’d like to see Helders and Barlow take Everest.”

The Monkeys have hooked up with Queens Of The Stone Age mainman Josh Homme, 36, for Humbug, which he produced.

He also sings vocals on Dangerous Animals and The Jeweller’s Hands and plays castanets.

Matt added: “Josh can hear things in a song that we can’t.

“It’s like he’s aware of new frequencies, like a really tall bat.”

Amazed, the love ballad by American country band Lonestar, is the most popular song chosen by newly-weds for their first dance, a new poll has found.

The pop song came top in a poll of 2,000 wedding videographers, who were asked for the most requested songs for the bride and groom's traditional dance.

Originally released in 1999, the song spent 22 weeks in the UK singles charts and topped the American 'Billboard' country singles charts for eight weeks.

At number five on the poll conducted by PRS For Music, Take That's Rule the World was the only track by a UK artist to enter the top five.

Written for the film Stardust in 2007, the song was the fifth highest-selling single of the year, despite only being released in October, and remained in the top 100 in the UK charts for almost 18 months.

It was also the most recent release to feature in the poll, which favoured ballads from the 1980s and 90s. Also in the top 10 was ex Take That member Robbie Williams who entered at number 8 with 'Angels'.

Van Morrison's Have I Told You Lately That I Love You, from 1989, came sixth, and Westlife's Flying Without Wings was number seven in the poll.

From Westlife's self-titled debut album, the 1999 track was the Irish band's third UK number one.

Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian penned Here for the 2008 chart- topping album Circus.

The duo's surprise collaboration with Take That was the result of the supergroup's Howard Donald feeling peckish while on tour.

"Our drummer's girlfriend works as a personal chef for Take That," revealed Olly.

"One day, Howard popped into the kitchen for something to eat and she just happened to be wearing a Turin Brakes T-shirt. He said: 'I love Turin Brakes - how do you know about them?' "He asked if she reckoned we'd ever be prepared to write a song withthem."

Olly and Gale joined Howard and Gary Barlow in Sarm West Studios in London to write Here.

Olly said: "Gale and I have proved ourselves as writers, so we thought: 'Why not have a go at pop?' It was a bit of a challenge and real fun.

"They loved what we came up with and put it on Circus.

"When we heard the finished version of Here, it sounded like Turin Brakes on steroids.

"They performed the track 10,000 times bigger than we could. I'm very proud of the song."

Turin Brakes release Bottled At Source, a compilation marking their 10th anniversary, on September 7. Olly said: "We released four albums for EMI Records and it felt like the end of an era, so we wanted to celebrate that fact.

"The compilation also features original demos we'd forgotten we had and unreleased material not heard in years.

"It felt a little weird to look back but the story of Turin Brakes is definitely NOT over. We are not shutting up shop."

In fact, Olly and Gale are working on their fifth studio album, Outbursts, which is scheduled for release next year.

But what's been Olly's highlight of the band's last 10 years? "I'll never forget our first appearance at T In The Park in 2002, when I completely lost my voice," he said.

"We were due on stage at the King Tut's Tent and were in real trouble. So we asked the crowd to sing our songs back to us as we played them.

"This massive crowd sung our entire set word perfect. It was an amazingly proud moment for us."

Keen shopper Lily Allen may well have heard herself coming out of the PA system when she hit the high street in quarter two as she ended up with the period's most-played song in stores.

The PRS for Music survey placed her chart-topping The Fear, written by herself and Greg Kurstin and published by Universal and EMI, at the top of the chart with James Morrison's Nelly Furtado coupling Broken Strings in runners-up spot.

Take That are the only act to place two songs in the 10, led in fifth place by Greatest Day, written by the group's members Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange and Mark Owen, while its follow- up Up The Night, penned by the band with Jamie Norton and Ben Mark, is ranked 10th.

The chart is heavily weighted towards UK artists, but there is room for both The Killers and Lady GaGa whose debut hit Just Dance, which was replaced at one in the OCC singles chart by Allen's The Fear, finishes seventh. It is currently the year's second biggest- selling single, outsold only by its successor Poker Face.

It's got such a dark lyric: "My heart is numb, has no feeling/ So while I'm healing/ Just try and have a little patience". There's also a maturity about it that suits the boys all grown-up. Gary Barlow is a genius; I won't have anyone argue against him. When Alex Turner slagged off Take That at the 2006 Q awards for getting an award, I nearly lost it. James [Dean Bradfield from the Manics] was grabbing me by the arm, saying: "Don't lose it, Nicky." You get so many alternative bands banging on about how to make perfect pop, and this kicks all their arses.

Manic Street Preachers' Nicky Wire has confessed he is a closet Take That fan.

The Welsh bassist revealed to the Guardian that when Alex Turner insulted Take That at the 2006 Q Awards, his bandmates had to hold him back from leaping to their defence.

Christine keen for TV date with Robbie and Take That

Christine Bleakley has revealed that she would love to get Robbie Williams and his former Take That band mates on the One Show sofa.

The Co Down presenter reckons Robbie and the rest of his old band would be her dream guests on the popular BBC evening show.

Christine was speaking as she took part in a photoshoot with co-host Adrian Chiles to promote the new one hour Friday show, which kicks off from Friday, September 11.

The pair enjoy an off-screen chemistry as well as on.

Christine and Adrian have become close friends since she joined the prime-time chat show, replacing Mylene Klass, but their relationship has been the subject of much media speculation.

However they have both consistently denied rumours of a romance.

Speaking about the One Show’s guests Christine said: “I’m always quite impressed with them. I get really enthusiastic about our guests — once they arrive I know the show is really happening.

“The big American guests are really good — they fire answers back which translate really well with us.

“My dream guests would be Robbie Williams and Take That. Michael Caine was one of my all-time favourite guests.”

Adrian said he had presented lots of live television shows, but that the One Show had proved the toughest.

“It’s like the difference between writing for The Sun and The Times,” he said.

“It’s much harder writing for The Sun with a much lower word limit.”

Christine also compared the show to “going to the pub with your friends” and said she always felt like she was talking to her mum when she was presenting the programme.

The One Show, which is currently attracting five million viewers daily, is aired from Monday to Friday at 7pm on BBC1, with the extended show every Friday.
