SURVEY REVEALS ROBBIE WILLIAMS IS UK’S FIRST CHOICE IN WINTER EMERGENCY
Robbie Williams has topped a list of celebrities that people would most like to help out in an emergency situation this winter. David Beckham follows closely with X Factor judge and Take That front man Gary Barlow taking third position in the poll.
Adrian Chiles, Eamonn Holmes and former Daily Mirror Editor and CNN star Piers Morgan came bottom of the poll, while loose lady Carol Vorderman, househunter Kirstie Allsopp and Apprentice star Lord Alan Sugar fared better in the survey.
The results of the survey carried out by Duck Tape have been released ahead of the bad weather that’s forecast to hit the country in the next few days.
Bad weather will cause 61 ‘emergency situations’ this winter, it was revealed yesterday and people will miss work for at least one day as they stay at home to contend with repairs to the house or car.
The study of 3,000 Brits shows many people will have problems with their cars over the coming months as they struggle to open car doors, find it hard defrosting windscreens and bump car wing mirrors.
While a fifth of people have had to claim on their insurance in past winters to cope with problems with the house or car.
Worryingly, the average person will break down at least once this winter, have two near-misses with other cars on the road, and bump their motor into another vehicle, wall or post once.
A spokesman for Duck Tape, which conducted the research said: “This survey shows that winter can be hazardous for British people, and it is tempting to batten down the hatches altogether.
“Driving in freezing conditions can be really scary and motorists need to make sure they are well prepared for all journeys."
“But the weather doesn’t just affect the car, as homes can suffer too with broken fences, guttering, boilers and windows.”
Other problems motorists face include having to abandon the car altogether forgetting the de-icer and breaking a windscreen wiper.
When it comes to the house, the average homeowner will have to contend with one lot of boiler problems, one garden fence blowing down and two instances of leak to roofs or windows.
The Duck Tape spokesman continues: “As the bad weather hits the country in the next few days, statistics show we’re likely to encounter some unwelcome emergency situations.
Duck Tape’s first-aid kit on a roll is great for helping out in literally 1000’s of emergency situations making it an essential item to stick in your glove box or kitchen drawer to deal with any urgent temporary repairs or fixes around the house or garden, or while you’re out on the road.”
Two thirds of people polled reckon the unpredictability of British weather is why they tend to suffer more mishaps during the winter, and 54 per cent say it is harder to manage a fast paced lifestyle when it’s so hard getting from A to B.

| WITH the odds stacked against her, songstress Nell Bryden was snapped up by Gary Barlow for a quizzical UK tour.
And the singer has high praise for the Take That legend. Nell, 35, told me: “Gary’s down to earth. He writes quizzes and we play with his family backstage!
After conquering her own demons, the American finds common ground with Gary.
She said: “Losing my hair through alopecia was shocking and made me re-write a lot of my songs.
“Gary persevered when he was shunned because he’s a real musician.”

| GARY BARLOW turned down the chance to sign Emeli Sandé and told her she wouldn’t be a star.
The Take That singer — also the lead judge on the X Factor — auditioned her for his own record label, Future, which has since gone bust.
But when Emeli gave him an exclusive and intimate performance of her song Clown, he told her he didn’t rate her.
He then hid his howler from fellow judges and millions of viewers when Emeli sang the same song at December’s X Factor final. He even gave her a standing ovation.
Emeli’s co-writer and producer, Naughty Boy, revealed Barlow’s mistake as his friend prepares for the Brit awards on Wednesday night, for which she has four nominations.
Naughty Boy, real name Shahid Khan, said: “Emeli played for Gary Barlow when he had his label. He had booked a piano room at the label headquarters.
“I watched as she sang Clown. He listened and said that he didn’t think she was a star.
“Emeli’s performance was identical to how she performed the song at the X Factor final. It’s crazy.
“On X Factor he is a judge of potential stars and yet he couldn’t even spot the biggest star in the country right now. I find that a bit disheartening.
“It was also irresponsible because it was less than three years ago. Emeli could have lost confidence when Gary Barlow told her she wouldn’t be a star.
“Barlow shouldn’t have said what he did because it could have knocked Emeli’s confidence and she could have walked away from music.
“There was other label interest and a lot was happening, but we didn’t know where we stood.
“Imagine if Virgin hadn’t come along and signed her.”

Emeli had quit a medical degree at Glasgow University to pursue her dream of making it in the music business.
Despite the setback with Barlow, she stuck it out and has gone on to become the UK’s biggest selling artist, with a string of chart hits, including her debut album Our Version Of Events.
She is also one of the world’s most in-demand songwriters, after penning tracks for the likes of Rihanna, Cheryl Cole, Leona Lewis and Alicia Keys.
She’s notched up more than 1.6 million sales of her album in the UK, close to another million worldwide and is making inroads in the US, having toured with Coldplay and in her own right.
Earlier this month, she appeared on US TV shows Jimmy Kimmel Live and Ellen.
“Between the two periods of time, she has not become a star,” Naughty Boy insisted. “Because she was always a star.
“She performed Clown on X Factor at the final in December so it has all come full circle.
“I saw Gary Barlow there because I was with Emeli. He knows inside that he made a mistake.
“It’s something that nobody else knows and, as he is a judge on The X Factor, he should be shamed for this.
“He is a great writer and singer, but I don’t respect the fact that she is the biggest star of the year on The X Factor and he couldn’t see it.
“It is about time that Barlow came out in the public domain, because spotting talent is a gift.
“One audition on X Factor and people are told they either are or aren’t stars.
“Obviously, some people aren’t. But there are others that should be given more of a chance and encouraged.
“He needs to man up. He has never even mentioned that he knew Emeli and turned her down. It’s his guilty secret.”
Ironically, Naughty Boy — who rarely speaks to the press — and Emeli have teamed up to spot talent of their own, having set up a label together.

Meanwhile, Barlow may find himself red-faced if he attends the Brit awards on Wednesday.
Emeli, having won last year’s Brits’ Critics Choice award, could be crowned Queen of the Brits if she picks up at least one of her four nominations.
They include British Album Of The Year, for Our Version Of Events, British Female Solo Artist, and Best British Single nods for Next To Me and a collaboration on Beneath Your Beautiful, with Labrinth.
