He redeemed himself from a shaky X Factor appearance with Tuesday's stunning BBC Electric Proms show. And he is now set for a top honour at next year's Brit Awards.

The Stoke-born star will be presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award then finish the show - the 30th Brits - with a live medley of his hits.

The fact he's accepted the opportunity proves Robbie is gearing up for more live appearances next year. And the fact he's been offered it proves the British music industry is placing its faith in him again.

It will be a superb end to a great night at London's Earls Court on February 16 - and watched live by millions of viewers on ITV1.

Robbie is already the King Of The Brits having won 15 of the gongs - more than any other artist.

Robbie Williams has won best British male four times

Pop star Robbie Williams will receive the outstanding contribution to music prize at next year's Brit Awards.

The 35-year-old has already won 11 Brits as a solo artist - more than any other singer.

Ged Doherty of the Brits committee praised Williams, saying he was "one of the outstanding artists and performers of his generation".

Williams won his first Brit award as a member of Take That, when Could It Be Magic was named best single in 1993.

'Absolute thrill'

The group went on to scoop three more trophies before Williams quit in 1995.

The star then carved out a successful solo career with hit singles such as Angels, She's The One and Rock DJ.

Williams has won the best British male prize four times.

Mr Doherty said it will be "an absolute thrill" to have Williams at the 30th anniversary of the Brit award show.

The star has recently made a comeback, appearing on the X Factor last weekend, and playing his first UK concert for three years as part of the BBC Electric Proms on Wednesday.

His exuberant X Factor performance was heavily criticised in the press, but writing on his blog after the Proms show, Williams said: "I wasn't aware until last night that the X Factor performance was given such an horrendous kicking."

He went on to praise the "lovely audience" at Wednesday night's concert.

"I know listening to new stuff can be a bit of a bore, but everyone was lovely and received it with kind hearts and consideration, so thank you very much," he wrote.

The gig broke records when it was beamed live to more than 250 cinemas in 23 countries across Europe, from Latvia to Luxembourg - but Williams claimed to know nothing about the achievement.

"I kind of heard it being mentioned but I think selective hearing must have been in action at the time," he said.

Previous recipients of the outstanding achievement award include The Pet Shop Boys, Paul McCartney, Oasis and The Who.

'Bodies' singer Robbie Williams is set to scoop his 16th BRIT award in February when he will be presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award.

Robbie Williams will be presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at next year's BRITs.

The 'Bodies' singer - who has already won more of the awards than any other artist - will receive his 16th honour next February, in celebration of his 19-year long music career.

As well as accepting the prize - which has previously been given to legendary acts such as Oasis, Fleetwood Mac and Sir Paul McCartney - the 35-year-old star will close the special 30th anniversary award ceremony with a medley of his biggest hits.

Robbie has been nominated for 31 BRITs over the years. He won 11 for his solo material and four with Take That.

The BRITs are due to take place at London's Earls Court on February 16 2010.

The UK’s recorded music industry association, the BPI, announces today that Spice Girl ‘Mel B’ will be hosting this ITV show that will turn back the clock with stunning performances from the likes of: Kylie, Scissor Sisters, The Bee Gees, Eurythmics, The Spice Girls, Bros, The Who, Coldplay, Kanye West, Paul McCartney, Take That, Robbie Williams dueting with Tom Jones, The Pet Shop Boys, Girls Aloud and of course Michael Jackson.

The singers will entertain guests at London's IndigO2 on January 18 when the nominees for this year's ceremony - the 30th anniversary of the event - are announced to the public.

It's renowned for taking risks but the Brits are really going out on a limb this year.

Because we hear Robbie "flaky" Williams is to perform live.

Yep, the man who shambled his way through two disastrous X Factor performances will be hoping it's third time lucky at the Brits' 30th anniversary awards next month.

It's live on ITV and everyone is praying Robbie's notorious "nerves" stop jangling.

A source told us: "It's a real coup having Robbie - but the poor bloke does get very nervous these days. Let's hope he pulls it off."

We can also reveal that the richest man in rap - Jay Z - is set to be there too.

We're told: "As well as bringing Alicia Keys on stage to do a rendition of their hit Empire State of Mind, he's thinking of getting Coldplay involved too. Chris Martin and Jay have been pals for years."

Lily Allen is being lined up to perform and a source said: "The rumour mill is on overdrive as to whether it will be Lily's last performance as she takes a break from music."

Lady GaGa, Kasabian and JLS will play live. And a highlight looks likely to be a collaboration between Dizzee Rascal and Florence and the Machine, who are working on a "You Got The Dirtee Love" song.

Robbie will be picking up the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award but the night - at Earls Court on February 16 - could throw up the biggest treat of all.

A source said: "Take That could reunite with Robbie for a second track. It's the band's 20th anniversary year and they are in talks about doing something spectacular."
