The Potteries-born entertainer is taking a starring role in the musical at Birmingham's Hippodrome Theatre from July 1 to September 5, which coincides with this year's talent show.

He said: "Working in Birmingham for two months is going to be great for me. It'll be ideal for the week of Stoke's Top Talent, and I'm hoping to bring some of the stars of the show up with me."

Jonathan takes the role of Khashoggi, appearing alongside Coronation Street's Kevin Kennedy, X Factor finalist Brenda Edwards, Georgina Hagen from Britannia High and I'd Do Anything contestant Ashley Russell.

Jonathan, who was born in Baddeley Green, said pop star Robbie Williams would be travelling to Birmingham to watch a performance, alongside Queen musicians Brian May and Roger Taylor and the show's writer, Ben Elton.

Jonathan hopes to lure Susie Amy, 28, who played Chardonnay in Footballers' Wives, to take the school's first drama lesson.

A sister college, which will also teach kids aged three to 16, will open in Stoke.

Jonathan said: "I come from the school that saw you starting at the end of Blackpool pier and working your way up. We want to instil good values into the kids."

Jonathan Wilkes and his wife Nikki are opening a performing arts school with business partner Kim Watts on September 19.

The couple, who are also opening a similar school in Jonathan’s home town of Stoke, said they cannot wait for The Wilkes Academy to open.

“I’m so excited about it,” said Swindon-born Nikki.

“I just wish it was this month – the sooner we start the better.”

They are hoping to teach children aged between three and 16 all the tricks of the showbiz trade, while stressing that they need to put in hard work if they want to succeed.

“Whenever you ask kids what they want to do when they grow up they all say they want to be famous – they want to be a celebrity,” said Jonathan, who is a close friend of pop singer Robbie Williams.

“They want to put in as little work as possible but make as much money as they can and that’s not the way to achieve longevity in the business.

“I come from the school that saw you working at the end of Blackpool pier and working your way up through the profession.

“We want to instil good values into the kids who come along.”

Classes will take place every Saturday at Lethbridge School in Old Town.

Sessions for three to five-year-olds will run for an hour from 9am.

Lessons for the five to 16-year-olds will run from 10am until 1pm, with an hour each for dance, drama and singing.

Classes will cost £5 per hour, but places will be limited to 30 per class due to space.

Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

“We’re going to be using our contacts to get some of the top names from all three industries to come along and teach classes,” said Nikki.

The pair hope to have Susie Amy, who played Chardonnay in Footballers’ Wives, to take the first drama class, Louise Dearman, who took on the title role in the recent tour of Evita, for singing lessons, and Fame Academy’s Kevin Adams to run the dance session.

The children will not take exams, but they will work towards an end of term project.

Jonathan said he hopes they will also be able to put on a show at the Wyvern Theatre in Swindon each year.

“We want to build up to that,” he said.

“I’d be in the show with the kids and we’re already looking at the different shows we could do.

“I’m in We Will Rock You at the moment and Ben Elton and Brian May have given us the rights to perform it so we’re planning on doing that.

“It will be great for the kids. We’re so excited about opening the doors to the academy – we can’t wait.”

THEY say they are going to rock you – and boy, they’re not lying.

Every brick in the Bristol Hippodrome was vibrating as Wootton Bassett’s Jonathan Wilkes came crashing into town with We Will Rock You at the start of its six-week run.

And the audience was in for a huge treat, when Queen guitarist Brian May burst onto the stage in the second act to blow the roof off with his trademark sizzling guitar riffs.

Singer and actor Wilkes – and best friend of global superstar Robbie Williams – is in for a busy time.

As well as his role in the rock musical, his new performing arts academy in Old Town, Swindon, is officially opened tomorrow.

The musical, penned by Ben Elton and based on the music of Queen, is set 300 years in the future when earth has been renamed Planet Mall and is controlled by the Globalsoft Corporation.

Nothing is unique – all of the Ga Ga kids watch the same films, wear the same clothes, think the same thoughts and listen to the same music.

No-one has heard of rock music and musical instruments are banned. But there is a legend that one day someone will show them the way and rock will be back.

As the house lights went down the sound of Freddie Mercury blasted around the auditorium as the audience was taken to 2309 and Kevin Kennedy burst onto the stage before being trapped inside a bright green prism of light. Then out on stage came Johnathan as Khashoggi, the commander of Globalsoft’s police.

It’s a first for the star as he’s never played a baddie before but you would never have guessed.

His evil sneer was second to none and he had the evil laugh down to a tee. During his duet in killer queen (with former X-factor finalist Brenda Edwards) he showed off his vocal talent and proved why he’s landed the star role in so many musicals.

This is a fast paced and loud show. The audience gets involved from the start, clapping cheering and in some cases singing along.

If you love musicals, Rock, Queen or just fancy a good night out then this is the show for you.
