HERO JASON SUGABABE Amelle Berrabah has revealed how she was comforted by Take That after the machete attack on her boyfriend. The 23-year-old was distraught as her man Freddie Fuller spent the festive period in intensive care. Fortunately, the nation’s favourite man band – and particularly Jason Orange, 37 – were on hand to lend their support. Amelle told me: “Over that period we had to do a show on New Year’s Eve with Take That. I was really nervous and had loads of stuff going around in my head. “But Take That are such a lovely bunch of fellas and we had a really nice chat. Jason, bless him, was asking about Freddie and sent his love.” The lads managed to help Amelle focus on something other than Freddie’s life-threatening injuries and pull off a memorable performance at London’s 02 Arena. She added: “They were so supportive. I love performing and when you’re on stage you just switch off. I had a great time. “After the show I went straight over to see Freddie and told him all about it.” Since then Amelle has been caring for Freddie, 25, who had his arm and leg almost chopped off in the attack. Amelle added: “I was like a worried mum. When I wasn’t with him I was ringing him up asking if he had taken his medication. Now he’s fine and doing so much better. We’re ready to move into a new place and everything is cool.” Despite scoring a No.1 album and No.1 single last year, Sugababes missed out on a Brits nomination – something they blame on the voting panel. Amelle explained: “We were a bit surprised. We deserved a nomination at least. “I imagine there being five bald-headed blokes scratching their heads, asking: ‘Who are these Sugababes?’ It’s politics.” Meanwhile, the girls are enjoying another sell-out nationwide tour. And their new single Denial is out now.
