Barlow: 'I can't promise Robbie reunion'

Gary Barlow has said that he can't promise a full Take That reunion with Robbie Williams.

The singer claimed that the group are still rebuilding their friendship with Williams rather than worrying about working together musically.

Speaking on Chris Moyles's Radio 1 show, Barlow said: "I'd say no at this point [to a reunion]...I'd say no, just because, you know, its taken us three years to get to this point and it just seems like changing the lineup... I just don't know.

"We met Rob when we were in LA, we saw him a lot while we were there. We really got on well, the five of us really got on well. And I must be honest, the last thing we talked about was music because we are starting to build our friendship again. So if there comes a time when we can all get in the studio or something again I think everyone would be up for it, but stood here now promising everyone it's going to happen, I don't want to do that."

When asked about meeting up again with Williams, he commented: "He's just a great bloke, Rob. I mean he's had his troubles and all the rest of it, and he's... whatever has gone on in the past, forget all that. He's great fun to be with, he's one of us really, he started with us, and you know, he's been successful so have we. We are all on a level at the moment and he's a nice bloke to be around."

Barlow added that if a reunion did happen it would be a "lovely end to the whole story".

Robbie Williams has sensationally revealed he is ready to rejoin Take That – 14 years after his bitter departure.

The star, 35, has healed his rift with Gary Barlow and says his old pals want him back.

He added: “I’m in regular contact with them and it’s looking more likely by the week. The lads all seem up for it. I think it would be fun.”

Robbie is waiting for a call from Gary Barlow to seal one of pop’s most eagerly awaited reunions.

The Angels singer, 35, broke his silence to confirm for the first time that he hopes to rejoin Take That.

He said: “Let’s see what happens, but my head’s in the right place, so the timing could be right if Gary calls. I think it would be fun. It would be good.”

Robbie also revealed his old bandmates want him back for good and went on: “I’m in regular contact with them, even Gary, so it’s looking more likely by the week.

“The lads seem up for it and some people think it’s a done deal.”

The star – speaking at the opening of the musical We Will Rock You in Manchester – suggested a reunion could be just months away. He said: “It would make sense for it to happen some time over the next year.”

And he assured fans the feud that followed his 1995 Take That departure was over. He said: “We’ve matured now. We’d have a laugh.” Gary, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald split in 1996 but re-formed in 2005 and have since sold six million albums. Gary hinted last December that they would perform again with Robbie as he said: “We will one day. I just don’t know when.”

Robbie Williams and Take That WILL reunite for a marathon series of live spectaculars.

They are lining up a residency at a major London venue and have pencilled in June or November next year to play the guaranteed sell-out concerts.

The shows should earn the five band members £25million – before any record or merchandising spin-offs.

The capital’s 02 Arena and Wembley Arena are battling it out to host the comeback, which will be similar to Michael Jackson’s residency.

The Mirror revealed yesterday Robbie was ready to rejoin bandmates Gary Barlow, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Howard Donald.

Last night it became clear a deal has been done and management are working out the fine details of the shows. Robbie, 35, is “100 per cent” confirmed and is negotiating terms.

A source close to the talks said: “It’s definitely on – don’t believe the denials."

“It will be the most sensational comeback ever.

“But everything is under wraps as it’s over a year away and the orders from the top are to keep it quiet.”

AEG – the promoter behind Jacko’s comeback – is offering 30 to 45 dates in June or November 2010 at the 02. It has been speaking to Robbie’s right-hand woman Josie Cliff and Take That’s 10 Management.

But Wembley is also in the frame and it remained unclear last night which venue is the frontrunner.

Robbie’s return ends a bitter 14-year split. The Angels singer revealed in the Mirror he had healed the rift with Gary and his old bandmates wanted him back.

They have sold six million albums since re-forming in 2005.

AEG said: “We are not in discussions with any of the artists’ representatives. However, we would like to be if this ever became a reality.”

It is believed that if the 35-year-old star comes back on board, the group would be able to perform even more sell-out shows to boost their income.

Williams has signalled that he is ready to rejoin the boy band after overcoming their differences following his bitter departure in 1995.

He has said that he has healed the rift with songwriter and former band mate Gary Barlow, and that the rest of the group are eager to see him return.

PRS for Music, the industry's royalty collection organisation, has indicated that the move could be lucrative for the entire band.

The organisation's spokesman Barney Hooper said: "Take That's tours will sell-out anyway but if Robbie rejoins the group it will give them the ability to repeat their tours because people will go back to see them all together.

"It also gives them the ability to extend their tours so everyone benefits financially by Robbie coming back."

Take That disbanded in 1996, a year after Williams's departure, but have sold more than 6 million albums since members Mark Owen, 37, Jason Orange, 38, Howard Donald, 40, and Barlow, 38, reformed in 2005.

They have scored number one hits with the songs Patience and Shine.

Williams, who has had a successful solo career since the split with hits including Angels and Let Me Entertain You, told the Daily Mirror that he was ready to rejoin the band.

It was one of the most short-lived stories in music history. Yesterday, Robbie Williams was on his way back to Take That. Today, it is not going to happen.

Williams started the story himself. Last week, Williams was filmed saying it was "looking more likely by the week" that he would rejoin his band with reports a London residency was being planned for next year.

But Take That denied that a reunion was imminent at a Danish press conference.

Gary Barlow said: "You know what, I've read that article about 50 times, I've seen it on his website a year ago, it's an old piece of news for us and we keep answering in the same way.

"We'd all love to do something - Rob's in the studio making a new album at the moment, we're on tour in the summer - it will happen one day, I just don't know when."

Jason Orange continued: "Robbie will tell you himself, he's quite changeable, so he will say on his website or some video that he wants to get back with the band and then he'll say in the next moment: 'Maybe I'll do my own thing.' He'll admit that he's quite changeable."

Mark Owen concluded: "The good thing for us is that since we got back together there's been so much more communication.

"We were out in LA mixing our record The Circus and we've been spending a lot of time with him, the communication's there and we're really happy there's a friendship between us, and that's the most we can hope for at the moment."

Rob is beavering away on his comeback album with top producer TREVOR HORN at Sarm Studios in trendy Notting Hill.

Meanwhile Gary is guiding his protege GARY GO through his latest sessions just down the corridor.

Earlier this week I told how Gaz laughed off suggestions of a band reunion with Robbie any time soon.

But I’ll bet my boots the pair’s creative juices start flowing together over a brew in the canteen.

Who knows what plans they might cook up behind the studio’s blue walls.

Music maestro Trev said: “They’re all in the building. Gary is in one of the rooms and Robbie’s there too. So they bump into each other and they get on brilliantly.”

Trev owns the recording complex, where his four studios are booked up by top acts all year round.

He has won three Brit Awards and a Grammy for his producing skills, masterminded FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD’s career and penned 1979 hit Video Killed The Radio Store when he was in THE BUGGLES.

But Trev, who has also laid down tracks with PET SHOP BOYS, says Rob is “without a doubt one of the best singers” he has worked with.

His studio tea lady should be getting along equally well with Gaz — I reckon he’s a builder’s tea with milk and two sugars man.

Miracle

But sorting out Robbie’s afternoon skinny-triple-soya-macchiato-frappe-mocha-cinos could be a challenge. TT fans have been praying for a miracle after Gary and the lads said in a Danish TV interview that they would get back with Rob — but had no idea when.

Their ex-bandmate had got our hopes up days earlier when he said that Gary knew his mobile number and he was just waiting for the call.

No need to hang around any longer, Mr Williams.
