Take That, Mumford and Sons, The Xx, Biffy Clyro & Gorillaz.

Doesn’t the Mercury Music Prize feel a long time ago? It’s like The Xx have disappeared already. Take That are streaks ahead of Mumford and Sons, their closest runner with The Xx so far back according to bookmakers it doesn’t seem worth including them in the list.

Best British Album of the Year:

Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More, Plan B - The Defamation of Strickland Banks, Take That - Progress, Tinie Tempah - Disc-Overy & The Xx - xx.

Wow, that’s an eclectic list. Biggest selling album of the year versus astonishing debut album versus incredible new sound album versus Mercury Music Prize winners. Without any odds you’d be tempted to throw them up in the air and just pick the one that lands first. The bookies say Mumford and Sons. Can’t help but feel the music press would prefer Plan B. It’s difficult to over-estimate the impact this album has had on Plan B and how it’s turned him into one of the biggest acts in the UK. Incredible rasping vocals, searing lyrics. Take That had Robbie Williams and even then they shouldn’t beat him.

The band will perform as a five-piece for the first time at the awards bash since they dazzled us back in 1995 with Back For Good. But this time they are expected to raise a few eyebrows and maybe even cause a few open-mouthed ‘Wows’ as they take to the stage with new single, Kidz. The boys plan to unleash the controversial choreography – which you may remember to be the same ‘riotous’ routine, involving 50 dancers, they wanted to perform on for The X Factor last year before Simon Cowell stepped in and deemed it slightly inappropriate at the time.

And if that doesn’t cause a stir amongst the critics, the boys’ new video certainly will. They’ve been filming the visual for Kidz in Bulgaria and reports suggest a 90-strong entourage were needed to protect the band while they put their masterpiece together. Gary and the gang filmed the video this week while on the biggest film set in Europe, but kept their plans hush hush so that no one would find their location beforehand and follow them down there (ahem, as if we would... actually yeah, we would).

Well, as journalists (read: huge fans), we can’t wait to see what Gary, Howard, Jason, Mark and Robbie have coming up for us on Tuesday and in their new video – in fact, boys, if you need a few extra dancers, just give us a call yeah. We’re on 07….

If the poll of 8,000 is correct, Gary Barlow and the lads would take home the gongs for Best British Group and Best British Album for Progress - the biggest selling album of 2010 with one million copies sold in 24 days.

The public crowned Goulding, last year's Critics' Choice winner, as Best British Female Solo Artist and Best British Breakthrough Act.

Acclaimed hip-hop and soul artist Plan B was voted Best UK Male Artist.

The public vote echoed the bookies' tip for Rihanna to scoop Best International Female, while Katy Perry's number one charting album, Teenage Dream, was named the people's choice for Best International Album, and Kings of Leon won the vote for Best International Group.

The poll by website Kelkoo found the British public would leave hot favourites Tinie Tempah and Cheryl Cole empty-handed, although they were nominated for six categories between them.

And X Factor Brit hopefuls also lose out to Florence + The Machine in the UK Best Single category for her cover of You've Got The Love.

Despite scooping the prestigious Mercury Music Prize last year, indie band The XX secured the fewest public votes in their three Brit nominated categories; just 5% for the Best British Group and Best British Album categories and 6% for the Best British Breakthrough Act

The awards, held at London's 02 arena, are predominantly voted for by music industry moguls.
