Fans given cold shoulder at Take That star's wedding
Published: 09 November, 2009 TAKE That star Mark Owen and his girlfriend Emma Ferguson got the fairytale wedding they wanted at historic Cawdor Church on Sunday.
But hundreds of fans who waited patiently in sub-zero temperatures for more than two hours were left disappointed when the happy couple were screened by their guests who formed a guard of honour after the ceremony at the entrance to the church.
Mark Owen arrives at Cawdor Church for his wedding.
Waiting photographers, camera crews and fans were told by security staff the couple would come down the steps to greet them after the service.
But instead the couple were obscured from view and walked round to the rear of the church where about 50 lucky fans were waiting with cameras at the ready leaving hundreds of fans at the front very disappointed.
The pop star, his new wife and their guests climbed into a fleet of transport vehicles to make the short journey to Cawdor Castle where the celebrations continued.
Fans began arriving early in the afternoon for the ceremony which was scheduled for 4.30pm. The groom arrived shortly after 4pm with band mates Gary Barlow, Jason Orange and Howard Donald. There was no sign of former band member Robbie Williams.
Most of the guests including the groom were in place by 4.15pm arriving from the roadway at the rear, passing through a churchyard which is the burial place of many of the Thanes of Cawdor and Niel Smith a surgeon who was at Lord Nelson's side at the Battle of Trafalgar when he was fatally wounded by a musketball.
It was nearly 4.50pm before Emma Ferguson arrived, exercising the bride's prerogative to be late.
Cawdor School staff were asked by the police to open up their car park and the PTA got a welcome boost to their funds by charging £2 a time for cars.
Most of the fans gathered behind waiting photographers on the opposite side of the B9090 road between Cawdor and Croy waiting to catch a glimpse of the pop star and his guests.
Their patience was rewarded as guests began arriving around 3.50pm to loud cheers. Many of the guests were in Highland dress and the groom in top hat and tails.
But the crowds had to wait another half-hour in the freezing temperatures before the bride arrived to loud cheers.

During the service young fans serenaded the couple outside with some Take That hits including Patience, Shine and Back For Good.
Tight security was evident with the churchyard cordoned off by police and security staff strategically placed throughout the grounds.
Some fans found there way into neighbouring gardens to be closer to the action and got a cheery hello from some of the guests.
As the late afternoon sunshine descended into darkness candles little up the interior of the church to provide a fairytale setting.
During the service one of the couple's children was taken from the church by a minder but the youngster returned a few minutes later.
Some fans began booing when they realised the couple were not coming down the steps to meet them after the service.
Some criticised the couple on GMTV for not coming down to say hello.
Many fans who had gone to the rear of the church where the wedding party emerged got some treasured video footage and pictures as the guests boarded minibuses to make the short trip to the castle. The bride and groom were taken to the castle in a vintage Volkswagen camper van.
The closest most fans at the front of the church got to see of the happy couple who were screened from view by guests.
