| Pooh, спасибо! Всегда интересно заглянуть по ту сторону занавеса.  Умилили кадры с Марки-поваренком и с Робби, отплясывающим джигу, а ещё, когда ребята стоят перед выходом на сцену, но уже видят зрителей (в части про Лондон). Роб и Хова даже рты приоткрыли, а Джей, как всегда, не обошёлся без языка

| The Progress Live 2011 Tour reunited its five original
performers for the first time in over 15 years as they
played to packed stadiums in the band’s biggest tour
to date.
Central to much of the show’s action was the giant figure of OM, a 20m high animated man, brought to life as a primitive god-like figure during the on-stage action. In reality OM was designed and engineered by Brilliant Stages with the expert help of mechanical engineer, Andy Edwards.
OM was first revealed to the audience as he slid out in a sitting position through the central performer stage which split in two to allow his entrance. Brilliant Stages created the dividing stage along with two band pods which rolled off-stage on tracks and were sited on hydraulic scissor lifts (two under each pod) to give them vertical movement.
As the show progressed, OM performed moves that included a sweeping motion of the arms, nodding the head, raising each of the singers in the palm of his hands, until eventually moving out in a recumbent position into the middle of the arena.
As he did so, he carried the band members on each hand and on platforms located within the abdomen until he finally stood up to reveal his full height and spread his arms wide in a stunning final image.
Great clothes
OM was clad in translucent fibreglass panels into which Brilliant Stages embedded bracketry for LED lighting. This formed points of light over the whole body. Working in conjunction with Neg Earth, Brilliant Stages also supplied LED clusters in the palm of each hand and two points for eyes and heart.
The six show positions, which saw OM horizontal, seated and upright, with head raised and lowered, arms outstretched and sweeping, required 20 axes of movement throughout his jointed limbs.
The arms were articulated at principal joints with a hydraulic slew ring and pivot to enable all required show moves, including rotational movement at each wrist. This enabled the hands to be positioned in ‘stowed show mode’ and in the correct orientation to allow performer support.
An additional rotary joint was incorporated at the elbow end of each upper arm to provide the necessary horizontal sweep movement of the lower arms and hands. A further slew ring and pivot in the neck allowed the head to rotate and nod.
A two-stage telescopic ‘spine mast’ formed the main component of the structure, providing both support and lift to raise OM to sitting and standing positions. The outer section of the mast effectively acted as the spine, while two extending inner sections acted as a lifting ‘prop’.
The mast was attached at its base to a heavy duty pivot mechanism giving approximately 100° of movement and was articulated by a pair of double acting hydraulic actuators. The powered hips, shoulders and neck were attached to the outer section of the main mast whilst the shoulder and head assembly, formed by a steel truss, were attached to the end.
The lift into standing position was provided entirely by the main mast to upper part of the body. The legs incorporated no mechanics or power for the show moves but were pulled into place by gravity as the torso lifted, articulated to provide the required dexterity for life-like movement.
The whole figure was mounted on a 1.5m high, mobile, self-propelled base located on a 35ton modified articulated trailer. In show mode, the trailer extended to 12.8m, which stretched OM’s legs out in front of him and contracted to 8.8m to draw his legs up into a crouched position before standing.
Quite a challenge!

| Немного про ОМа
The concerts hit the headlines not only because it was the first time the band had gone back on the road together with Robbie Williams back in the fold, but also because of the way some of the older female audience had a tendency to go weak at the knees.
And the robotic man would take centre stage as the concerts reached their climax finally emerging to stand upright, while band members also danced in his giant hands.
But ‘OM’, as he was known, started life on the factory floor in Thetford.
In what is likely to be Norfolk’s best kept engineering secret, two companies, Warren Services and Boniface Engineering, both based at the Fison Way Industrial Estate, were tasked with turning the designs of Hertfordshire-based stage specialists Brilliant Stages into reality.
And not only was the venture top secret, it was also a race against time as the firms only had a matter of weeks to construct the giant steel, aluminium and fibreglass figure and make sure he could walk tall when the music began to play.
But as these pictures show - keen-eyed observers living close to the industrial estate may well have spotted a skeletal-looking OM, whose name is a variant of the French word for man, as he was put through his paces in the Boniface yard.
Richard Bridgman, chairman of Warren Services, said despite the tight timescales and secrecy, building OM the firm could not resist the challenging of delivering on a project which was worth £165,000 to the company.
“Brilliant Stages came to us and said ‘we’ve got a job, but we can’t tell you what it is’. We’re the sort of company where no challenge is too big, but we had to sign a confidentiality agreement and believe it or not we did keep it a secret.
“We had to tell everybody in the factory that they had to keep quiet about it.”
He said Warren Services was picked because of its ability to offer a complete service from water cutting, laser cutting, welding and fabrication needed to put the skeleton of OM together.
“We have had a long association with stage companies and have done work in London, Macao and Las Vegas,” Mr Bridgman added. “Last year we did work for Muse which was a major project for us, and we also worked with Pink, as well as on the last Take That Circus tour.”
“Take That always demands something spectacular,” he said. “We made all the skeleton for the man and the arms, legs and hands and all the operating parts. And we did it within two months. The team from Brilliant Stages were here designing it while we were making it, so while we were making the legs they were designing the arms.
“When he emerges at the end he is taller than the Angel of the North. I don’t think anything like this has been done before. A lot of energy goes into the safety side, but there was a time when they thought they couldn’t take him to Germany because it wouldn’t meet their criteria.
“The biggest engineering challenge was the timescales. From start to finish we were working flat out. We had to people working over Easter and on nights and days. We’ve got 75 staff and I think all of them worked on it at some point.”
The heavier work to create his spine and to adapt the truck crane used to make him stand was done by nearby Boniface Engineering.
David Hall, project engineer at Boniface, said that he got the call on Christmas Eve to see if the company would take on the £220,000 job.
To create OM, the team adapted a recovery crane vehicle to make a special rotating boom which would enable him to stand up and down.
“There was a lot of very heavy engineering involved,” Mr Hall said. “We took a standard boom and turned it upside down. It was a fixed trailer and we removed the axle on it so that it could extend and shrink. Myself and one of the other guys had to paint it at 3am because it needed to be painted by the next day! But it was a fantastic thing to do.”
News of the project comes as hi-tech engineering firms from across Norfolk and Suffolk are set to gather in Bury St Edmunds for the EAME 11 (Exhibition of Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering) event to celebrate and showcase what firms in the two counties have to offer.
But Mr Bridgman who is a keen advocate of Norfolk’s engineering sector said both firms also had another way to celebrate the achievement of building OM.
“We organised a trip for everyone who wanted to go to see Take That at Wembley,” he added. “I was so proud and I kept saying to everyone around me that I had been involved with it!
