| Dressed all in black, like a cross between Simon Cowell and Johnny Cash, he paraded around the stage with the confidence of a man at the top of his game. So much for the stage fright that used to cripple him before shows.
Two songs in, halfway through Lazy Days, he had the crowd in the palm of his hands. He winked: "Are you ready for the gig of the year?"
Then came a speech about the road to this day. He shouted: "In late 1989, 1990 a man had an idea. That idea was to take five working class boys from the north of England, teach them to sing and dance to rival New Kids On The Block.
"Six people came to the audition - I was the fifth."
The crowd went bananas as he soaked up the screams.
Poking fun at old manager Nigel Martyn Smith he added: "And for legal reasons that man will remain... F*** it, that man's a c***!"
It wasn't long before preggers missus Ayda Field, back home in London, got a mention.
He told the crowd: "I have a phone in my pocket and the only person who has the number is my wife.
"If my little girl comes tonight, and this phone rings, what shall I do?
"Will you wet the baby's head with me tonight? Or smoke the baby's head with me tonight?
"If she does phone, do you think I should leave, or do you think I should stay?"
Bad news Ayda, you might not like the way the vote went.
Robbie joked to the crowd: "We could always have a little baby couldn't we?"
He then launched into Old Before I Die, his debut single from 1997, changing the lyrics to say "Google says I'm gay."
It's always been one of his cheeky tricks - changing the odd lyric. Five songs in he said: "I've slept with girls on the game. Like Geri Halliwell."
It was a stripped back production, only a backdrop of the new album cover. This show was all about the frontman - he was the light show, the dancer and the joker.
All the old moves were out. As he said to me before the show: "I spent six albums trying to be Beck, Pulp, Oasis, Jay-Z, Supergrass or whoever it was at the time. I've just realised I'm pretty good at being me."
He nearly put his hip out during Rock DJ, which stayed in the set after going down a storm during his solo section of the Take That tour last year.
It was like a greatest hits show — minus the wobble he had around Intensive Care and Rudebox.
Freedom was huge with all hands in the air amongst a sea of camera phones.
"During these gigs I've come to realise I do a lot of dad dancing, so please just indulge me tonight. When I do break out don't look at me and say "Oh s***."
No harm done, give it a few weeks and you'll be perfectly qualified. Road To Mandalay is always a singalong, and Glaswegians like "a chant" as they call it.
I've seen some special moments at gigs, but halfway through he picked a bloke out the crowd and asked if he'd been dragged along by his missus.
The bloke nodded and Rob replied: "You look like you're at a funeral, this could be your own."
He then asked if he could cover a Mumford & Sons, Oasis or maybe Neil Diamond song to cheer him up.
A full rendition of Sweet Caroline followed, getting a smile on everyone's face. Priceless.
He took another bit of time from the music to knock out 60 press-ups — beating Usher's record of 50.
Come Undone and Angels were other huge highlights.
Roll on the big gigs next year when he's back in stadiums in front of tens of thousands.
He really is unrivalled. The greatest pop star the country has produced in the last 20 years.

| The Candy singer who stated that his wife "almost gave birth this morning" in London named the collection after his grandfather Jack Farrell aka Jack the Giant Killer who was well known for being a notable dresser.

Speaking to Lorraine Keane, Williams, who recently played a sold-out gig in the O2 Arena explained that the brand's motto is "wear it in and wear it out."
Key items from the collection include Savile Row-inspired Chesterfield coats, quilted jackets and grandfather-collar shirts.
When asked if he was always into fashion he said: 'I've always been into clothes. I've always liked clothes. I don't know if I have always been into fashion. I know what I like wearing. I know what I feel comfortable in and what makes me feel empowered.
"I'm not a designer, I'm not going to lie to you and say I am. But what I do, do is DJ clothes. If a DJ goes 'I like this record' and people go 'yeh I like that record too,' I'm kind of doing the same thing. You can't reinvent the wheel with men's clothing. It's pretty much been done. What I can do is put together a collection of my favourite stuff."
Commending former Burberry head designer Ben Dickens on their collaboration, he said: "But we really needed some that could do this sh*t, and that’s were Ben who was head of men’s over at Burberry comes in. He has added some mighty weight to my DJing and remixing.
"Ben’s amazing he is a proper designer. He knows what he is doing. He can put pen to paper and knock something up. But what I found interesting is this thing called inspiration pieces. You take an old piece of vintage stuff and rip it off, and making it better."
The former Take That singer admitted that there were strong Irish influences running through his collection saying: "Instantly the clothing line went from being a brand to something that was authentic to me and authentic to my DNA, and my family.
"Grandad Jack the Giant Killer was from Kilkenny. He came from an era when even the working-class had tailors. Everywhere he went he had a three-piece suit and so did everybody else. The aesthetics of my granddad run all the way through the line. It is an honest, sturdy, sensible and hard-working collection."
He also admitted that his loveable Grandad acted as a father to him growning up, adding: “When I was born unfortunately my mum and dad split up. So that left me with my sister and my mum and granddad Jack thought I was going to grow up to be a sissy. Which he is right I did. But he wasn’t having that. So at the time he was teaching me how to box.
"He thought me how to strengthen up my legs and had me jumping up and down on the bed. He took me all over the place and I very very fond of Jack the Giant Killer. He was very handsome man over 6ft tall and I have his name tattooed on my wrist."
The Angels singer showed his cheeky side by pointing out that he is responsible for the catchy branding. With a massive grin on his face, he joked: "I come up with the USPs. Here’s another one Savile Row quality at high-street prices. That was mine too."
When asked to describe his own personal style he insisted that it depends on the amount of chocolate he has consumed.
Rob explained: "It’s a bit of a mess to be honest with you. It just depends what point of the year it is and how much chocolate I’ve eaten. If it’s too much chocolate then it’s just elastic waistbands and tracksuits to be honest.
"But if I’m in ship-shape then my fashion sense is pretty good. I’m sure there will be people in the press that will be able to go back in time and produce pictures of me not being too sharp. But that’s inevitably going to happen. I’ve got a nice wardrobe full of nice stuff and I love my clothes."
Interestingly, Robbie chose to hide the line’s branding which he insists seems to “work for people.”
"It’s not that wise in today’s day and age. Well, you know, it seems to work for people. But we would like Farrell to be a bit more subtle," says Robbie.
He continued: "It is a bit of a dilemma whether to keep it that subtle or whether to go too loud. At the minute the branding is very very minimal. I am looking forward to seeing many people wearing the stuff."
The question on everyone's lips was what has Robbie achieved and gained for his fashion experience, to wihich he eloquently answered: "What I’ve really taken away from it on a personal level is that there is a lot to do if I want to do it outside of music and outside of clothes even. It’s a blagger’s world. You can blag your way into anything and I intend to do that. The world and universe is my oyster. Hopefully one day Farrell may put the next man on mars. It could be that big. Why limit your ambitions?'"
He added: "It’s like an extreme sport in a way. You go out and sing and people could go ‘no we hate that new song of yours’ and your adrenalin is going. This is another version of an extreme sport. I could quite easily loose a load of money and face."
Asked about how married life is with his actress wife Ayda Fields, he said: "Married life is awesome. I found something called stability and that’s weird in itself. I have found myself in a place where I am happy and in a good place."
Speaking about his unborn baby girl, Robbie added: "We thought the baby was going to have to be induced today. We went to the doctors again yesterday and we got the scan and they got the measurements wrong.
He joked: "Something happened were they just said 'no your fine, just cross your legs and let Robbie get the Dublin gig out of the way.'
However, the 38-year-old singer did admit to having battled with baby nerves, saying: "I’m terrified. There were moments when I wanted to run off. I’ve been a popstar since I’ve been sixteen. I’ve never done anything for myself and then all of a sudden there is a little life coming into the world and they need looking after, and I don’t know how to look after me. I had been terrified but right now I am very very excited. "
Robbie played a sold-out gig in the O2 Arena last night.

| It's been a hard day's night: Robbie Williams looks tired and bleary-eyed after working up a sweat at Essex gig

He’s about to become a father for the first time in a matter of days, so it’s understandable that he might be sweating just a little.
And last night Robbie Williams was spotted doing just that - sweating profusely after a gig in Southend-on-Sea, Essex.
The perspiring 38-year old singer had just got off stage in Essex and was understandably worn out after wowing the crowd with many of his old hits.

Robbie was seen looking bleary-eyed, tired and sweaty after the gig, as he exited the venue from the stage door and chatted to fans.
The star previewed some new tunes at the gig including Losers and forthcoming single Candy from his newest album, Take The Crown.
It was the fourth and final solo show for Robbie in his latest tour, having already visited Leeds, Glasgow and Dublin in the last few days.
Robbie decided to tour the intimate venues to revisit the gigs that he performed during his first solo tour in 1997.
Opening the show with his 1998 hit Let Me Entertain You, Robbie impressed crowds with his energy and enthusiasm during his 20-song set.
Cheeky Robbie even bared his bottom to the crowd, telling fans to check out his recently waxed rear end.
He recently admitted to having a 'falling out' with his wife Ayda Field, 33, after scheduling four gigs at the same time as their first baby is due.
The US actress is due to give birth any day now and reportedly scolded Robbie over the poor scheduling of his comeback tour.

At his first date in Leeds, Robbie told the crowd that he had a mobile phone with him on stage.
According to The Guardian, the singer asked the audience: 'If it rings, do I stay or go?', to which the crowd of course screamed, 'Stay!'
Fortunately for Robbie his wife did not go into labour – and hasn’t since.
Legs 11? Robbie tweeted this picture following the gig in Essex last night (Sunday)
During his recent visit to Dublin, Robbie looked cheerful as he made a public appearance to launch the Farrell clothing brand in Dublin.
Robbie took the time to retweet his fans’ messages of support last night after the gig, then tweeted out a seemingly random picture of his legs with the caption: ‘Legs 11. RW’
A spokesperson for Robbie told Mail Online: ‘Robbie had just come off stage after giving everything he has got’, adding that reaction to the series of gigs has been ‘amazing’.
